Bloody hell, I can't even get a 4/9 shot over the line in front. Obvious early excuses the ground had gone beyond heavy and didn't suit. Not sure why they let him run then. It has raised heavily most of the day here and that is after floods midweek too. Maybe the horse isn't all he's been cracked up to be, early days and another chance on better ground than that today. Only saving grace is that his price meant he wasn't a betting opposition after the initial favourite was pulled out.
This morning took a look at the ATR racecards for all four days of the Festival meeting. You know, what got me was that in the right-hand column one thing sprung to mind. It really hit my eye that three trainers seemed to dominate the listings, and they were, W. P. Mullins, G. Elliott, and H. de Bromhead. This did nothing for the gloomy feeling I have developed for this year's Festival. Oh well, got to shake myself out of this negative attitude. So, will even be cheering-on Nicky Henderson, who has certainly never been my favourite trainer. But, regardless of his yard's current poor form, he does have a few horses who I hope will do well, Jonbon and Constitution Hill being a couple of them for a start. So, shake a leg you Brit trainers, and at least give the Irish a run for their money at this year's Cheltenham Festival!
as a punter , it’s surely the horse you’re cheering , not the stables geographical location ? the inexorable rise of irish racing been going on for years , along with decline in uk quality of racing . one has govt support , the other relies on bookmaker levy , it’s clear which one is more effective .
The Irish are that confident this week that they’ve not even snuck one in at Stratford tomorrow to top up the coffers
Exactly. I'm Irish and I couldn't care less who wins what, the horses do no know what country there from at the end of the day. More than happy to back an English winner as long as I can back a winning selection. Do you think Willie Mullins will come away happy on Friday night if he has only 2 winners for the week but every other irish trainer has won meaning Ireland has had more winners than GB Silliness drubbed up by the media and British racing. Needless to say, its hardly worth noting it was created at a time when Ireland almost never had more winners.
Couldn’t agree more STH. The number of my friends over here who follow racing and care about this is zero. Plus the British racing scene has loads of Irish people working away in it anyway. Trainers, jockeys, owners. JP McManus and others batting for both sides as well with his runners. A nonsense.
