Might spur us on on Monday and if I'm Honest given our defensive cover issues and the fact all the top guns are still in the competition I'm sure going outs not all that bad.

    Blackburn fan in peace.

I didn't see the game or highlight but read some reports, it looks like it was a decent game to watch, and it was typical of Blackburn this season, apart from we won :)

Sort of think that the cup is not what we need at the moment, we could do with a decent run in the league and forgetting all about the cup.

I dont know how he played but surely Perch alone was not to blame for all 4 goals conceded against the divisions bottom and most out of form team especially as one was from a penalty which shouldnt have been given and another from a deflection whilst the last may have been offside. Why do some people always need someone in the team to bully even when its totally unjustified. Give him a break its gone beyond boring now. Noone tearing the others apart for this inept performance i notice. He isnt a big central defender and Colo isnt either so as a replacement for big man Saylor he was always going to be up against it. Blame the club for not having enough cover for the big men at the back.
Also blame team selection in not having a competitive central midfielder to replace Tiote. Cabaye works hard but is more of a creative player and Guthrie despite being a decent creative player is also not a competitive midfielder. What happened to grooming Abeid for the role? (sat on the bench) Competitive Gosling (sat on the bench). Vukic???

Guthrie and Cabaye is a good midfield partnership. I don't see where this idea that every midfield needs to have a specialised holding midfielder has come from. If both centre mids work hard then you don't neccesserily need someone like Tiote

I've never understood the Guthrie hate. He has had one or two bad games and one or two invisible games but overall he usually performs admirably; his passing is usually great and he puts in a good amount of effort too.

I should imagine the fact that we lost last night probably has something to do with it.
I still personally think that he was fantastic in the CCC but hasn't adapted to the Premier League.

That's because he has never had a run of games and probably never will. He is competent back-up in my opinion and for a lower team playing week in week out in the Premier League he would be very good!

Narh disagree. Guthrie was one of our best players back in our relegation season IMO(08-09) and he had Butt playing alongside him. <yikes>

Guthrie IMO is good enough to play in the EPL, but right now he's cover at best with Cabaye and Tiote playing so well.

Stop the Guthrie hate - he's much better than Simpson and Simpson getz in the team every week (different positions, I know, but IMO Guthrie is streets ahead)

I'm not Guthrie's biggest fan although last nights performance made him higher in my estimation of him. Good cover I think, looks better than Gosling from what I have seen of him and can pick out a nice pass.

He is out of contract in the summer, don't think he will sign because he will want regular games by the sound of it. Another bad thing about him is that he always seems to pick up niggly injuries which will restrict his game time even further

We'd get someone like Arsenal, Man Utd, City, Chelsea or Liverpool anyway! We wouldn't have been lucky enough to get Crystal Palace or Cardiff!

Manchester final this year I think!

Guthrie is an average central midfielder who can produce the odd moment of genius.

A great strike against Blackburn in the carling cup doesn't change that.

People suggesting we play him instead of Tiote, give your head a wobble.

    I think it will be:

    Man Utd v Man City
    Chelsea v Cardiff
    Crystal Palace v Liverpool
    Blackburn v Arsenal

    then:
    Man Utd v Arsenal
    Liverpool v Chelsea

    then the Final:
Man Utd v Chelsea - Chelsea will win

Who said that? Although currently he's our best 3rd choice CM IMO.. what would you play Smith ahead of him? <yikes>

Someone above suggesting that we shouldn't play Tiote I think.

And hes 3rd choice yes but hes still average.

Definetly Mr Average like. Would be satisfied if he signed a contact and stayed as a squad player, but on the other hand if he left I wouldn't care haha

Just wish Gosling played a bit better in the small chance he was given, I had high hopes for him.

Hopefully will still get another shot like.

.... Ah did you lot see his MOTM performances against Tottenham and Man United last season at home?

I'm not saying Guthrie is a midfield maestro or in Xabi Alonso's level, but what I'm trying to say is we should back the lad and have confidence in him if Pardew plays him when Tiote goes to the African Cup of Nations. Guthrie and Cabaye are two good all-round midfielders with great box-to-box ability(obviously Cabaye is better) who can do a job while Tiote's out. Also you have the likes of Abeid and Gosling who will also be in contention I'll imagine. <ok>

Were they not saying Guthrie should play if Tiote is still injured? Sounds like he had a good game yesterday, glad to hear it.
