Teams like Birmingham? Their side still had miles more quality and experience then we do and they didn’t cut us open once really. Unfortunately their experienced back line wasn’t tested more then once or twice
Surprised they didn’t bring Jutkewicz off the bench in the last 15. He’s no world beater but he is a handful. Suspect both managers were happy to settle for a point.
With Derby and Reading losing, Peterborough and Barnsley drawing it’s A very good point for us with another game played.
Shockingly poor game ,but has been said on here it’s another point towards our pre season target Namely consolidate our championship position. Onwards and upwards but really good to see our academy lads coming through And playing for their home team .
I thought we played pretty well, particularly first half which I enjoyed. Possibly deserved to be 1-0 up at HT. 2nd half was scrappier but good point.
For what it's worth, I thought we played okay, particularly in the first half. On balance, I think if we had gone in at half time 1-0 up there could have been few complaints. Nobody really stood out for me, the back 3 played well, Fleming and KLP link-up play down the left is a real threat and long may that continue. I keep saying it, but it's the midfield where we need most strengthening. The weight of ball passed forward, for professional footballers is appalling at times, usually over hit, and you could see the difference when Tom H came on, even though for 10 minutes, his passes usually are perfectly weighted. All the midfield worked hard, but just lack the quality needed going forward. Eaves did okay, should have scored but lost the chance by taking a touch, though we lost his hold up presence when he went off, and Forss just never got into the game. All in all, any points away from home are good points. If we can come away from the Coventry with anything, that will be a real plus, as they seem to be playing really well.
I'm afraid that Marcus Forss continued to look very very lightweight. When the ball is played up to him in the air, I noticed yesterday that not only did he not jump, his body shape even shied away from the ball. Not only was he no threat, he is a danger defensively because if he never wins a 50-50 played up to him, the team are immediately under pressure again. I haven't seen Allayhar yet but surely if we were going to take Eaves off, he would at least have presented the Brum defence with a different problem, as indeed would Tyler Smith who wasn't even on the bench.
Agree 100% with this. We saw the value of Eaves’ work ethic when he went off, Forss looked pretty disinterested.
Yes we need a goal scorer but chances have to be created for that goal scorer with our current midfield those chances are rarely created since their passing is so poor. One wonders what Tom has to do to get a few more minutes. At least he can pass the ball.
I think the problem with Tom is that he is simply too slow to be effective as a CDM. Interestingly when he came on yesterday, he seemed to have licence to play a bit further forward with Smallwood still on the pitch and immediately started to cause Brum some problems. Radical thought but really wonder if we could try him as a number 10 but you really coudn't see him replacing George could you?
I know some people don't think formations matter that much, but I would like to see us try the most McCann formation again - ie 3-4-1-2 with KLP and Eaves up top and Honeyman in the hole behind, rather than the current 'false wingers' idea of 3-4-2-1, with Honeyman and KLP on opposite sides. I don't think George has been as effective in this (Shota's) line-up, whereas under McCann he was much more involved AND had begun regularly popping up with goals. Maybe it's nothing to do with the formation, but ...
It’s impossible, these players can only play in the one system! There can be no talk of systems other than the one we play.
I agree that Forss has not convinced yet, but yesterday almost every pass to him was twenty yards over his head. He's not going to win stuff in the air, certainly compared to Eaves, but how many times does Eaves win a header? Not that many in a game (mostly due to inaccuracy of long balls), and when he does, how often does the ball go to a teammate? Once a game, if we're lucky. Forss did manage to lay on an excellent chance for Docherty which he cocked up.
