Chelsea v Newcastle. Both clubs owned by totally unfit sets of owners.
We know all about Abramovich and his close ties to Putin and only last week the wonderful Saudi regime executed 81 people in one single day.
Shame on the premier league, shame on their sponsors, shame on the TV channels that show their games and shame on the fans who think that it’s ok.

Unfortunately not isolated in just football, but throughout the world leaders, the rich and most prosperous Corporate companies & Countries..
Gas, Oil, Gold, money, power, & greed is the makeup of the world we live.. The normal, everyday citizens are the bees to the queen and the ones who eventually suffer as the fuel for all the many regimes.....I see talks are already underway with the Saudis, so reliance is reduced from Russia.

Today at this game 22 starting players, substitutes, managers, coaches, backroom staff and general modern day footballer arse wipers will take the knee against racism, I suspect the Chelsea will even show some sort of faux support for Ukraine, whilst some fans will chant the name of the Putin supporting owner, because winning trophies is more important than the outrages happening in the Ukraine.
And Newcastle fans and players and staff will they show an ounce of humanity towards the 81 human beings executed in one day? a record even for Saudi Arabia, will they f*** most of them won't even know about it, because there has been far more column inches about the poor poor Chelsea fans than the paltry reporting of 81 executions.
I don't blame the players other than their rank hypocrisy about what they believe is worth challenging and what is not and being careful not campaign against anything that might damage their revenue streams, most of them couldn't change a light bulb. I blame the premier league for allowing such despicable people to own clubs, shame on them.

    Ain't this the truth?

please log in to view this image
Klopp when asked about sanctions for Roman Abramovich:
"It’s pretty obvious where the money was coming from, everyone knew it, but we accepted it. That's our fault. It’s clear he's pretty close to Putin.
It is a society's fault we accepted it. Now, we cannot accept it any more and so we punish them. It is not Chelsea's fault, not at all.”
Klopp went on to say: “I don't think it's fair to ask me, you are longer in this country. Did you care? Did anyone care when Abramovich came to Chelsea? Did anyone care when Newcastle got taken over? Do fans care?
Owners are there to lead the club. We don't think about where money is coming from — now we start thinking.
That's a good idea. We should think about that more.”

As for the highlighted portion it's the same people who executed 81 people and own Newcastle.

I am not asking football to care, I am asking the people who run and profit from football to be more caring about where the money comes from.

Ricky Gervais called it right when he said to the luvvies at the golden globes "be honest if ISIS had a streaming service, you would be calling your agents in the morning" and exactly the same can be said about football and by advertising it's legitimising the source of the money.

Let me add another personal point, despite having been a supporter for over 60 years, I would not cross the threshold of Ashton Gate if BCFC had such owners, I would not buy a single item associated with the club.

    Neither would I.

BCFC takes sponsorship from gambling businesses, a owner who lives outside of the UK to legally avoid paying tax, and through the championship there are constant reminders of football does not care where its finance comes from, football is not about virtue. At each level football goes ever more balls deep to get into bed with bad Russians, bad Chinese, bad Arabs, bad Brits bad anybody.

The money runs the football. Care? The capital doesn't care. Its business.

Abramonvich is just a show. Football as you highlight in the opening post was already rancid. One show, one gesture does bugger all in reality.

Silly me in thinking that the people who make the rules about owners of football clubs had our backs and looked after the sport's integrity. Perhaps the financial fair play folks need to take a deeper look rather than looking away when this ownership situation next comes up. Since I left in 1975 I have witnessed foreign ownership of most things that were British become rife while the populace sat back and said nothing, rather than complain, and regrettably it's too late to turn back the tide of evil that has permeated the country.

Chelsea are not owned by Putin.
Newcastle are owned directly by a leader that rules Saudi Arabia that is bombing Yemen.

Chelsea is owned by a man who is close to Putin, a man whose money comes from dubious sources.

Close is not being the mass murdering tyrant.

Close is the Tory party, or Londons Mayor watching people close to Putin creating Moscow on Thames. Tens of thousands of properties worth billions purchased by annonymous (dubious Russian) oversees owners.

Putins agents murdered people here, and politicians turned the other cheek, and his agents (Oligarchs) purchased more assets.

Abramonvich is just a show. A drop in the ocean v the wider geopolitical picture.

I think you will find that the Russians and their dirty money started to arrive during Blair’s watch, when money people from everywhere were welcomed with open arms, especially if there was something in it for him personally.

i only hope boriis johnsons looking over his shoulder, and wondering why when as mayor of london, he gave these oligarchs planning permission - allbeit through third parties to build buildings that despoil our capital, but are we not guilty to an extent, after all how many clubs would have refused abramovitches money back in the day,

I didn't post that it had not.

Yeltsin to Putin encompasses Blair, Brown, Cameron, May and Johnson. Fifteen years of Tories in power there.

And 13 years of labour when the seeds were sewn and the roots well established.
The problem is where it was allowed to begin and then it becomes part of the fabric of especially London and it takes a wake up call like Ukraine to realise if you lie down with dogs you risk catching fleas. The next problem was the oligarchs then wrapped themselves in a comfort blanket of parasite lawyers and it needed a law change to start the process with some of them.

I take your point about our own owner, my thought is if tax avoidance isn't opened up to everybody then it shouldn't be there for anybody. Having said all of that fair play Guernsey is a great place to live, unlike London these days IMHO.
