Used to spend a lot of time around Folkstone as a nipper. My old Dad used to drive us all down there on a Sunday in his old Austin Princess
Monkton village to be precise. Just down the road from the foxhunter, family bungalow back in the day, it's sold now.
Never been and dovers famous for its cliffs so been walking that all day before taking a quick trip to samphire hoe and walking round there. Quite nice and tranquil. Not many people which is nice, feels exclusive
Lot of Kent folk 'seem' to like going to Folkestone, Probably because of the harbour, seafood, and they use to have amusements for the kids, don't know if they still have. Quite liked Broadstairs myself but it's a nightmare to park and a rip off if you do find somewhere.
Caught my first plaice off deal pier (sure it was deal) fishing one afternoon, my dad's a dick for that **** so had me out for something called high tide at 8am, so I just got stoned and slept til about 12
I always think of Monkton as Birchington way, maybe because you see the signage as you come up to the little roundabout.
It was the easiest place to get to for us from Lewisham, straight down the old A20, then M20 to Ashford and onto Folkstone. Remember my old man used to love to buy a tub of cockles from the seafood vendors on the front and he'd enthusiastically tell us all to 'breathe in the sea air' lol Fond memories
I was wondering if it was Capel le Ferne way. The road that links Dover to Folkstone now has changed a hell of a lot from when I was in my youth, I can remember them boring through for the tunnel to create the link.
Broadstairs is lovely, my bird sat on That lovely horseshoe style beach all day getting wrecked while me and my bro found food and shade nursing getting wrecked the night before. We done one of those escape room things there too one night after a few beerios, that was class actually, breaking into a bank was the theme but the place they had it in was actually an old bank with vaults and ****. Good fun
Minster. Dunno why I said that it just popped in my head Is Monkton in minster? Or next to it or summin?
I was such a little **** when I used to go down that way during school holidays I ventured a few fields over from the back of our bungalow one half term with my older sister, I dunno I was like 12 she was 13, anyways were looking for somewhere to smoke a spliff she stole off my dad and during our adventure we pushed a field full of hay rolls into a water bank, just ****in about kids being dicks. Anyways the next holidays a few months later my dad comes in one afternoon after walking the dog saying he was speaking to some farmer dude in the local pub and he was complaining some feud with some other farmer because he sabotaged his hay rolls Ive never told him to this day it was us
I think the one down Broadstairs might be the one my mate, his sons own. I remembering him telling me all about the investment into them, and how quick the business was growing - pre covid that mind.
Glad you enjoyed your day mate, pics look tranquil, soz I was getting distracted by the footie on tv.
I believe Folkestone has had a fair amount of money spent doing it up, particularly around the harbour area.
I haven’t been down there for donkeys mate. That whole area was always a bit rough around the edges in the early 80s, but yeah I can imagine the whole place has been gentrified these days.
