Sat at daughters ballet lesson. She doesn’t even want to go anymore but they have a show in 6 weeks so the wife reckons it would be mean to take her out now.
    Thoughts?
She wants to try gymnastics btw. Likes doing tipple tails.

It could be nerves of the show coming up, maybe her mind looking for a way out. I have tended to find, when you take them out of something, sometime down the road they later regret it OR maybe she really has found something else she would like to do, gymnastics. It's one of those dilemma's every kid has, no right or wrong answers I'm afraid, only you as her dad can find the answer to that one.

    Yeah it’s a tricky one.
To be fair, it is really boring. She’s been going for around 18 months now and a lot of the stuff they do is very repetitive. Not sure if that’s down to poor teaching or if ballet is just quite dull to learn.
I’ll leave it up to her, but you know what 4 year olds are like. Probably want to do karate-tennis or something else as mental <laugh>

If she decides she wants to leave, it might be worth gently posing the question, would you like to do the show first? How she responds will fill in the gaps to what is going on inside her mind.

I think she just likes running round like an idiot to be honest, like most kids.
Ballet is just a bit more reserved I suppose.
I reckon she’ll do the show because she knows that Nana’s, grandads etc will be coming to watch.

My daughter gave up dance because she hated doing the shows, she's now been doing gymnastics for about 3 yrs, they don't make them do the shows, so she's happy to go along and just do routines, keeping herself fit.
As an aside, my mates sister did ballet, her and a few friends, all in late 30's, early 40's now and have ****ed joints , his niece did the same, she wouldn't listen, went to dance school at 15, she was very good, she's 20 now, and regrets it, had to give it up at 18, the pain they go through to get good, would be classed as cruelty in any other walk of life

My daughter is the same. She’s done gymnastics, karate, horse riding and given them all up because she just wants to go roller skating with her mum lol

I wouldn’t stress it too much. If she really enjoys something she’ll probably go back to it in time.

I think as parents we get caught in that ‘it will be good for them’ ‘they can’t drop out because they have to learn to commit to something’ ‘what about nan and gramps, they were looking forward to coming to the show etc’ thinking, when in reality they are just young kids who want to run around and be kids.

Nothing to it, 15 minutes, lie down for another 15 and if you're OK, off you go, 24hours rest, a few paracetamol and it's done.
