Ahhhhh some awful awful statements in this thread.

I am sorry i understand its all about opinions,
But Vidic overrated? please stop it now he's immense
I dont care if he gets away with fouls and bookings etc, he's old school any means needed to win

Mikel is by far the most overrated player in the league.
He is a worse gareth barry (i dont know how but he is)

The guy can tackle or pass unless it is to one of the CB

Bale, you serious ? wingers are usually inconsistant anyway.... but look at how many full backs he has ruined in the last year ?
everyone is **** scared of him look at all the threads before the tottenham match
Including everyone saying he's overrated !

    rant over !

I don't know how you can class the ones in bold as overrated. They might be complete twats (Valencia not so much as he looks like Jermaine Jackson) but there's no doubting they're all class footballers.

Another idiot who doesn't understand football. Since Parker has played for us (which was the first two games of our season), we haven't lost a game in the EPL.

Valencia can't get in the Man Utd team anymore and was awful in the Champions League final, he's not a player that should be playing in one of the best teams in the world.
Suarez is a good player but totally over rated by Liverpool fans and the press, he's scored 8 in 22.
Gerrard for how awful he played for England.
Rooney again is a good player but there's better strikers out there and he's always one moment away from ruining a game like in Montenegro & numerous others, oh and as said on previous pages he's too greedy and drops too deep.
Modric is quality but i'm going by the price tag he was given in the summer, no where near that good.

Why do people misunderstand the word overrated?
Overrated - To overestimate the merits of; rate too highly.

Overrated does not mean he is crap. Parker is a great player but steviemac14 obviously thinks some people go way overboard on the praise. How does that make him an idiot who doesn't understand football?

Couldn't disagree more with what you've written. Other teams used to systematically hack him to pieces - he got injured in 2 of the WC's he won cos of this and tried to retire from Brazil several times - yet he still tore them up. The guy was unreal, far superior to Jairzinho and Rivelino (2 players I like a lot), Best maybe could have been in his league but he was only a good player for 3 or 4 seasons before he went off the boil so again, like Maradona, you can't compare with Pele as he was top notch for 20 years. 20!! As for the others, just ask Franz.

"Pele is the greatest player of all time. He reigned supreme for 20 years. All the others - Diego Maradona, Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini - rank beneath him. There is no one to compare with Pele." - Franz Beckenbauer

Baresi is the best player of all time for me. I think defenders or defensively minded players always get a raw deal in the "who is the greatest" polls.

If you are going by goals, you are aware the Eusébio scored more goals than games he played in a poorer team than Pele did right?

back to the original question i would go for Ferdinand (give it away son), Rooney is a hard one coz wen he is good he is gr8 but when bad is woeful, Lampard (most of is goals are pens), Barton, Taabret (fkin sook), Carroll

Only if you count his spell with Benfica, in total over his career he did not. However, most of his career (and his peak) was with Benfica and they won the European Cup as well. No doubting his credentials, but Pele still does him due to his success on the international stage. And no it wasn't just about goals but that stat was the easiest to find! If you read Wikipedia, you will be amazed at how much influence he had, if he wasn't scoring he was creating.
I'd counter the 'poorer' team statement with the fact that the Portuguese league was infinitely inferior. Eusebio was playing for the best team in Portugal by a country mile.

I agree, Barry isn't a good player, he's not even an average player. If I was playing next to Silva and Toure, I'ld look better than him. He's got the easiest job in the league.
