They seem to be looking at money both coming in and going out so it may be just a way of curtailing unnecessary spending on private jets and luxury hotels etc. Unnecessary that is to most people but essential to footballers, this could come as a bit of a shock to the Chelsea high rollers.
There's obviously a lot we don't know but wouldn't contacts have to be honoured? Of course that would mean Abramovich willing to put more money into a club that has been seized, if he is allowed to.
Yeah I read it from Kieran Maguire. The section that Tom has copied in. Would have to look back for it, may have been from the same source saying that Abramovic 'loaned' Chelsea £90m every year. Presumably just so they can operate with their massive budget.
I’m not sure what you mean by “have to be honoured”. If they can’t pay as they don’t have the cash then they won’t be able to honour them. If the players don’t agree to a deferral them a winding up order can be served As to whether he can put more in - I would assume “no”. But not certain. And I’m not sure he would even if he could
Also why would we allow it - I know he is spending money, but dirty money is dirty money end of. IMO this is bigger than football, literally the future of our planet and humanity is at stake here. Sounds dramatic but true.
I’m not so sure about that last part as I don’t think the sanctions on Roman will really change Putin’s course here
Agreed, but lots of little things make one big thing. It is bigger than football and if Putin continues and WW3 breaks out (a real threat) then the future of humanity is at stake. Football is a business but really it is about entertainment for the people. Decisions against Oligarchs shouldn't need to be made over how it affects a football club. Energy is going up by god knows what and that will leave us out of pocket, but unfortunately it is the right thing to do to stop using Russian resources. However, I will lighten up a but and say it would be funny as anything if Chelsea got relegated
Honoured or cancelled would have been better. I guess it all depends on what the government wants for Chelsea FC. If they want them to continue operating then the players and staff will have to be paid and money will have to be allowed to come in. That can only come from Abramovich if he is willing. If the players don't get paid, they can walk out on a free transfer can't they?
I agree about the current situation being bigger than football but sometimes we can forget this is primarily a forum where the implications can be discussed in football terms. If we only look at the bigger issues in the world football forums would cease to be.
Yep I realised that as I read it back lol. Sounded like I was in my soap box. Also not meant as a dig at anyone.
I was also just trying to word my post carefully but it still came across as if I was telling you off.
The relegation battle will be more interesting afer this weekend with Leeds playing Norwich and Burnley versus Brentford. If Leeds don't win this game, I think that Burnely will ultimately catch them up. The potentialof points deductions for Everton due to financial fiar play makes things even more fascinating. It is lucky for both Leeds and Everton that Watford and Norwich have been adject and taken up two of the relegation places already. Otherwise, I would see both teams getting relegated in different circumstances.
All the fans on the Everton boards seemed to think that points deduction thing was debunked on the day it was announced. They even removed the link to the daily Mail article with it in as they said it was just scare mongering
Hope Foster and the Watford defence play like they did last night against us on Sunday. Also, that Neves goal was a thing of beauty.
Hope, having it is the sure sign of a Saints Fan. My hope is that 11 players do their job in a way they were a couple of weeks ago!
I am sure that I saw it reported on BBC and the article I read was not so confident they would get off. Sad to hear of the death of Gordon Lee. He was the first Everton boss I recall from when I first started following football.
If we assume this current situation with their bank accounts being frozen gets resolved (otherwise they go out of business very soon) and they get sold the word is that Chelsea still will need to sell several players under new owners. The new owners are unlikely to be “underwriters” of debt like Roman was. And the club haemorrhages money. They will need to bring the wage bill down and money in. And presumably show profits as well This latter part will point to sales of their academy players as they will be a 100% accounting profit. But obviously parts of the first team squad will need to move on to get wages down as well But some are on such high wages. Who would pay Werner’s? There would be interest from Germany but not at his current wages. I don’t see anyone matching Lukaku I’m saying I would expect Broja to be sold this summer if new owners come in. I’m not certain we could afford him if a bidding war gets started. That said I would say that the last couple of games should have shown he isn’t quite worth the 40-50m being talked about yet.
Apparently there is what seems to be a loophole in that now they have planning permission for a new stadium all costs (losses) associated with that do not count
