Hassenhutl had a few jobs before Leipzig, including getting a team promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history, and was successful there so he had a lot of experience. What has JM got on his CV? Sell him to me. I think he was appointed because he's American and I'm extremely concerned about how he left Leipzig. I think he'll conclude very quickly that this job is too tough for him to. It's my opinion that's all
I don't have to sell him to you, nor am i trying to. You're the one saying he's out of his depth after 10 days on the basis of an admittedly sh*t performance. I'm saying give the guy half a chance.
I said that in my opinion he's out of his depth. I had concerns about him before he even got here. The reason I asked you to sell him to me is because I can't see why they appointed him. The PL is the most competitive league in the world which is why it attracts the best managers. What has JM done that makes him the best candidate for a job here? Hearing that they wanted to appoint him last Summer makes it even stranger. I think Bielsa was sacked because JM was ready to go. Do you think they'd have sacked Bielsa and appointed Nuno, for example? Tell me I'm wrong and it makes no sense
Apparently JM had six job offers whilst he was waiting to take over at Leeds. I’d love to know who the six were or if that’s just more “American” talk. I’ll hold my hand up I felt Bielsas time was done but long long ago I complained about the 49ers moving in. I think it was Doc who tried to calm my nerves on that one but they’ve gone again
Is it that competitive Blono when only 3 maybe 4 teams can actualy buy/win the league. Just a thought.
Actually you said ‘I already know he’s out of his depth’ that’s on the strong side of just giving your opinion. In my opinion, They’d earmarked him as one of a number of coaches whose style would work as a succession with the squad/style the club was committed to. I have no doubt the 49ers had a significant input to that just as marsch will have provided a view on aaronson - An angle to market the team in the US will have obviously appeal. Ultimately, though - he got sacked and became available. That makes him front runner over other bielsa replacement candidates they had identified. Your suggestion of Nuno might indeed have been better, but different philosophy/playing style. Our team were getting buttf*cked every week, the board figured we looked like a relegation team so wanted to try and stop the rot. Why was marsch on their list in the first place apart from being American and similarities in playing style? Well you’re absolutely right that success in the mls and Austria and being a red bull ‘house’ manager doesn’t represent a badge of approval for the premiership, but to suggest he’ll be shocked at the standard is a bit disingenuous. He’s a Princeton graduate (likely less strict admission criteria as an athlete - but it means he’s not an idiot). He did his coaching badges in Scotland. His Salzburg side played Liverpool - where he ranted at half time in multiple languages. Erling haaland loves him. His cv probably says he likes travelling and meeting people and reading his kindle. He can make shoo-fly pie. - what’s not to like. Seriously, before Leipzig he was considered a coach with a future. Most ‘analysts’ say it was a bad fit… a side built on possession football with a coach with a different philosophy. Clearly on record only, his appointment was a gamble. Never suggested otherwise. But then for different reasons hiring bielsa was a gamble.
I was rather hoping that we'd see this season through with Marcelo and then by way of a miracle / or shrewd £ investment, get Diego Simeone in as Bielsa was probably ready to hand over the reigns. As has been said, everything rides on this next result.
Yes I know what you mean , I been to a few games like that , the 1 match that comes to mind was Leeds utd v Wolves in quarter final of FA cup 7.3.98 leeds in premier league and wolves in championship leeds were lethargic then wolves scored .
