The death of Shane Warne has really hit me hard. I'm not really affected by famous deaths. There has only been two others then have affected me and that's David Bowie and Paul Ritter.
Hi mate, hope you're well. The one that really got me was the killing of John Lennon. It came on the news and It just wouldn't sink in, it wasn't real to me.
Ann & Brian, the very best neighbours we’ve ever had, Ann lost Brian to Cancer a month or so ago, then on Monday this week her elderly, but previously as fit as a butcher’s dog, had a stroke at lunchtime, he could still walk and talk albeit a little slurred. She called an ambulance and he was taken to HRI, when Ann got there she was told that he’d had a brain bleed and that they were going to carry out a procedure on him that they would normally only perform on much younger people, but because they deemed him so fit for his age… After said procedure Ann told us that he lost all function, basically a cabbage, on Tuesday she witnessed him laid in bed with tears streaming down his face, at 11pm that night he passed. I’m totally gutted, for Ann and also the fact that the I’ve lost two great blokes. RIP Tom, and please say hello to Bri for me xx
A real shock to me too. I actually met Shane Warne when me and the missus stopped in the same hotel as the Aussie team during a Test match in Leeds. 1990's. We were there for the cricket ourselves. The hotel is very close to the Yorkshire TV studios and a lot of the commentators, ex players etc were also stopping there. I remember the first night when we both went up to the hotel bar and looking around I said to the missus that we are the only two people in there who weren't famous. Ricky Tomlinson was up there and David Jason too, the place was heaving with celebs, and of course all the Aussie team. After breakfast one day we called the lift and when the doors opened Shane Warne was stood there with two other Aussie players. We exchanged words because we were obviously going to Headingly ourselves and I believe the Aussies were already three nil up. I said we'd beat then, this was the last day and of course Warney took the piss out of me in a friendly way. We did beat them actually and Mark Butcher batted all day and scored a double century or close to win it for us after tea, Back in the hotel reception after the game the Aussies were getting ready to leave and we were going out for a night around Leeds when Shane Warne recognised us from breakfast and came across to chat and shake our hands. We have a lovely photograph of him stood with his arm around my wife with a broad grin on his face. Great personality as well as a great cricketer. RIP.
Great story. I have an eerily similar one to this, only when my lift doors opened instead of Shane Warne, I had Willie Thorne!
The same lift doors opened in the same hotel and Ricky Tomlinson was stood there but I couldn't recall his name at the time and just said 'Oh it's my arse'. He wasn't every amused.
Tributes have poured in for Only Fools and Horses star Ron Pember, who has died aged 87. The death of the actor, who also starred in Red Dwarf and a string of British television series, was confirmed by his grief-stricken grandson Paul Pember.
Had to look him up and he was certainly a face I knew from numerous shows but star of only fools is stretching it RIP
I checked his picture and I remember him being the tax man in the Better than Life episode of Red Dwarf. Not sure if I remember him from anything else without imdbing him.
