I think the change they wanted was no more players out of position. But he moved Dallas to right back, Ayling to CB still have a CB playing defensive mid (CBs on the subs bench) when we’re leaking goals and have decided to play a narrow formation with four wingers in the starting lineup. Jesse needs to play with what strengths we have.

I also find it strange that we’ve got considerably worse since the injuries have returned

Yes I know we’ve been pants all season. A lot of it can be put down to an unprecedented amount of injuries. But equally teams, especially the top teams, have worked out how to beat us. A lot of embarrassing drubbings since Christmas. But even so, we at least showed spirit, and we at least looked like we could score. All that spirit seems to have evaporated under Marsch - initial impressions are that he’s made us worse.

Not really a surprise though. It’s all very well winning things at RB Salzburg, not much competition there. But when he took over RB Leipzig, in a much more competitive league, he failed dismally. Nothing about his track record inspires confidence.

That’s why I maintain that with Bielsa we had more of a chance of staying up. Maybe a 50% chance.

Now that has fallen to 20% at best.

We weren’t worse at Leicester though were we? We were the better team, missed sitters and conceded to their only chance.

    yesterday we were a babyshambles.

We have not scored in six games so how are we worse. New coach has had two games to asses us in person in real games not videos or training ground. Bielsa got us thrashed on a regular basis. I doubt very much if jesse would have refused players in January.
Orta got us some right donkeys ie moreno. He actually does nit play 10 or striker so in fact we had four wingers start v villa. So let's see what happens v naaarich. Llorente should be back so dallas to left back and ayling right. I don't want to see rodrigo start another game. Feel the same about roberts and firpo before the injuries. I would start bamford just for his all round play. Joffy on the bench for later. Biggest problem is midfield which has nothing to do with jesse. Lack of mids is down to Bielsa stating we would only sign better than what we have. We have forshaw and loads are better than him. He creates nothing and i have never seen him score. We have no number ten in the staring eleven. Is greenwood fit for that role?.
Honestly you sound like a guy mourning his long lost love who can't move on. Comparing the latest to a rosey coloured memory of the past. Bielsa had lost the plot and along with cheapo rads and the waster orta are all to blame for the clubs demise this season.

I think Bielsa had to go but only if the right guy for the job was available.

Marsch reminds me of an old manager of mine, he had the gift of the gab, I’m sure he blagged his way in as he was clueless.

YES I KNOW it’s only two games but before he took charge he talked the talk, after yesterdays game that talk had vanished and it was typical American it’s all down to self belief bollocks.

I do actually think he is probably clueless, another Heckingbottom. He’s basically come in and played the same round pegs in square holes that Bielsa was doing. He’s made no changes, we still see James starting at CF we see Firpo selected, we see Dallas at RB we see defenders in midfield, he doesn’t have a clue how to change this around.

I think those who wanted Bielsa out had a very valid point, I think equally those who wanted him to stay also had valid concerns. I was all for change but if that change is Marsch I’m regretting it already

I was going to stay away today as well….

    <laugh> That’s just it Wakey, I can’t <wah>

Admittedly the recruitment has been abysmal. Money wasted all over the place. Obviously nothing to do with Marsch.

All I’m saying is that, even though results have been atrocious we should have stuck with Bielsa till the summer as Marsch now has no alternative but to play the hand he’s been dealt. It looks like we’re heading for relegation regardless.

Gerrard after the game yesterday…. “If that had been a boxing match the corner would have thrown the towel in long before the end”…. I 100% agree and those players should be ashamed.

In the cold light of day...

I don't know if you lot ever read my ramblings but before we even kicked a ball under Marsch I said that the danger in his system is the long cross field switch. In the first 15 minutes they blindly hooked the ball cross field twice. They didn't need to even look, they just knew that no Leeds player would be there. Credit where its due, Gerrard got his tactics bang on and his team played exceptionally well and that's an important point. Villa played as good as they possibly can.

Now on to us. We played really poor. The idea is to let them play the ball to the full backs and then press that corner as a group. It's important that this is done together. If one person doesn't do it then it's easy to just play through as Villa did regularly before switching the ball to the other wing where we had nobody. Too many times only Raphinha or James pressed with no back up. Almost like the players were still pressing man to man under Bielsa. In other words the players did not follow the coaches orders. The first 15 minutes were OK. The first 15 minutes of the second half were OK. Other than that we played as a team of individuals.

On to the mental side. Under Bielsa the confidence and bravery was shot. We got a bounce at Leicester under a new coach and lost a game we should have won comfortably. The players were obviously mentally fragile and we saw that new found confidence completely evaporate when Struijk deflected it in to his own net. Marsch actually did a good job at half time and we came out and played on the front foot and should have equalised after a few good crosses flew across the 6 yard box. If we equalise there I genuinely think we go on and win the game. Instead, Villa break and THAT long cross field ball found Cash who scored the 2nd goal. That mental fragility returned and the players lost all sense of discipline and just played off the cuff resulting in another soul destroying hammering.

We need something to go our way and quickly. Just a little luck that inspires a belief in the players. Time is running out.

If we don't score first against Norwich I fear a substantial scoreline will go against us again to the side bottom of the table and then itreally is all over.

If Marsch had made a few changes I’d understand it, to come in and play the exact same team Bielsa would have picked in the same wrong positions, we’ve just got a cheap copy. It’s like going on Amazon spending £20 on a pair of Levi and trying to make out they’re the real deal.

If Marsch is an Orta capture along with the signings they both need to go, it’s just too depressing to even think of a way forward

Marsch is right though. At this point the mental side of the players is crucial. They need a shot of confidence. He's bang on the money. The lads are scared to play. All of a sudden that 10 yard pass becomes incredibly difficult. It's a piece of piss when you're flying high. I've played in relegation battles and it is hugely difficult to drag yourselves out of a run like this. Its 90% mental at this point.

As stated above, we need something positive to happen and soon. Its already at the point of no return and past it tbh. We need a dodgy penalty or something to go our way.

Hope you’re right mate, at the moment the last couple of weeks have seen the board rip the fan base in half and probably divided the players too

vast majority of Leeds fans didn't want a manager change, board completely misread the room or got a poke in the eye from 49ers

players starting to cave in too easily now, there needs to be a big mental shift for Sunday ... still only need 3 wins, but can't rely on teams below us fkng up, need to take control

    Morning all.
I could see what was coming early on last night.
I do think Bielsa couldn't find, or didn't try to find, a way to compete with the better teams but his system would still work against teams that didn't put the effort in, like West Ham, or just weren't able to match us man for man.
I don't think the result would have been any different last night because Villa had too much for us. Coutinho ran the show and we couldn't handle him.
I watched as our team got frustrated and angry in the first half. You don't play better with the red mist over your eyes and as soon as the first goal went in we were done.
The Cash goal summed it up. It was Sunday league.
The players either telegraph a pass or just simply don't look up.
Whenever Villa went forward they looked dangerous whereas we were met with a brick wall.
I do think we needed a change but we needed someone with PL experience. I'm convinced that JM is shocked at the quality of the opposition. Norwich will be better than pretty much anything he faced in Austria and better than most in the Bundesliga.
We needed someone like Nuno who was at Spurs. I don't think JM will be here very long.
It's not a matter of giving the new manager a chance. I know already that he's out of his depth.

I agree in regards to the team, it would just be Bielsa lite.

    Unfortunately it's not Billy.

The players did not respond to the manger last night and simply did their own thing which left us back in Heckingbottom territory.

30 seconds before the 2nd Villa goal Marsch instructed Dan James to track Matty Cash and James totally ignored the instruction. That would never have happened under Bielsa and the team is now broken and finished as far as this season is concerned.
