Frustrating, despite my hope, had a feeling they would win somehow tonight, though I think we are currently a better side. We were ok, improved, but that soft set piece underbelly has surfaced again. Hope we don't lose that steel we have cultivated over the last few months. I agree with another poster, think Perraud plays, and KWP on the right. Tino too reserved at the moment. We need the creativity from the fullbacks to help us out. KWP was outstanding I thought tonight. Hope it clicks for the Watford game, as going to that!
Enjoy the euphoria. I know I would if Saints had won. Totally deserved win. The reason we go all out attack is because we can’t defend.
Don't think we were sh*t at all. Just not our usual selves. We know our high-tempo style doesn't suit a two-game week and the players probably took a bit of a knock in confidence from Saturday's thrashing. Plus Newcastle look very solid under Howe, and their new signings, particularly Burn and Bruno, are all excellent.
Man the hyperbole that comes out on this board when we lose, is embarrassing. Sound like a bunch of cry babies.
Agree- we are pretty predictable especially in set pieces. We need a ‘magician’ and the magic store is too expensive.
Wish list: That Forster was braver and could catch. That Elyou could shoot. That's about it. Agree that Tino has gone off the boil, but that was always likely seeing as he's 19. KWP and Perraud shuold be first choice for the cup game(s). EDIT: One more. For JWP to stop putting his in-swinging corners straight into the keeper's hands. Been going on all season.
Well putting to one side the needle building up this game that was a pretty entertaining game of football. Newcastle played really well and never really let us settle, forcing too many mistakes from key players. Saints recovered well from Saturday and looked largely to be on their way back to top form but we simply did not have enough pace or create enough chances. I'm also a little worried about how few shots we get on goal from our multiple corners. That needs working on. A quick word on Djenepo. I groaned when he came on but he was the only one to inject the pace we needed to frighten their defenders. Dare I say it, he almost changed the game. You could see the effect it had on others (a bit like we used to say about Stuey a few weeks back). Unfortunately too little too late. Never mind. Let's move on.
Well, I have no idea if we deserved that win or not as I couldn't get a stream working and was following on the BBC feed. I do know that there were quite a few posts on there towards the end saying 'Well saved Dubravka' though, so I imagine it was definitely a nervy finish. Obviously delighted with the win simply because I didn't expect it at all against your lot. I'm glad this game is out the way though. Always had a soft spot for Southampton and hope this doesn't turn into a long running feud for either side. Good luck in the Cup - could still be a trophy winning year for you
We've done excellent lately, just lot a couple of games. Villa game disappointing, but this game could of gone either way. Broja goes, so be it, at least we are in good hands.
