Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK government.
All of his assets in the UK have been frozen including the football club, meaning he cannot sell it.

    • Chelsea are able to pay the wages of all employees, including players and coaching staff.
    • They can pay "reasonable" costs of travel to and from fixtures but not exceeding £20,000 per game per team.
    • Pay "reasonable" costs towards hosting home fixtures, not exceeding £500,000 per fixture per team.
    • Fans who bought season tickets or individual match tickets before 10 March 2022 can attend games.
    • Broadcasters can broadcast any fixture involving the club.
So no new tickets can be sold. Guess that means no away fans.

I guess so - but the sanctions limit their attendances to 28,000.

Interesting quote from Liz Truss in this:

"Today's sanctions show once again that oligarchs and kleptocrats have no place in our economy or society. With their close links to Putin they are complicit in his aggression."

Are those in the upper echelons of the Tory party about to be sanctioned and kicked out of the UK too?

Or does she just use big words without understanding what they mean?

The Abramovich/Chelsea saga perfectly sums up the apathetic approach to world issues that so many seem to embrace - until it affects them directly. Common knowledge that his wealth was (being generous) dubiously acquired, yet most were happy as it meant success for their team.
Of course it is the supporters who will now suffer, and as is normally the case with ownership, it’s something that’s done *to* them - there is no real choice. But let’s not pretend that there wasn’t an implicit understanding as to the cost of success under Abramovich.
Being up in arms now is understandable as a knee jerk reaction to the future of your club being plunged into doubt, but was there really no inkling that this day of reckoning would one day come? Anyone thinking Chelsea weren’t dancing with the devil was/is kidding themselves.

Apparently they can still get TV revenue as part of the various contracts?

But that is frozen so guess they cannot spend it.

"The money due to the club from highly lucrative television contracts for the Premier League and Champions League can be paid to Chelsea.

However, that cash is to be frozen, raising the question of how the club will continue to meet its payroll demands in the coming months"

It is believed that the monthly payroll is £28M. The last accounts showed that they had £15M in the bank. Without top ups from somewhere administration beckons.

I believe Chelsea can receive all monies due to them, BUT The owner is excluded from any benefit from the clubs income including the eventual sale of the club where he will gain no benefit including repayment of his outstanding loan to the club

Sell it to Bassini for a £1 and one less big club to worry about in the Prem

Next step (if only) do the same to the clubs owned by human rights abusers with dirty oil money

That takes care of Man City, Newcastle (oh the tears) and Everton (shame)

Telecommunications company Three has asked Chelsea to remove their branding from their shirts immediately, having now suspended their sponsorship deal with the club. There’s a kit man in Norwich now heading down to Sports Direct to buy 20 plain blue football tops.

Chelsea fans have showed their support for Russian owner Roman Abramovich by chanting his name at Carrow Road this evening.

What I find fascinating is that a man with very close links to a dictatorial government that has invaded a neighbouring country where they have committed human rights abuses is allowed to continue funding Newcastle. I can see why Chelsea fans feel aggrieved.

Toney gives Brentford the lead - and keeps our slim hopes alive.
