Could be due to union involvement? A good few years ago I worked in the Pay Office of an abattoir in Australia owned by an English M'lord. Not long after after the end of the Vietnam war, there was an influx of Vietnamese into Oz and quite a few were taken on as daily casual labourers in the abattoir. Before lunch break on the first day, they had caused the union to threaten strike action if they weren't dismissed.

The reason? The Vietnamese were working too hard, refusing to take regular breaks and making the locals look bad!

I am a great believer! I am the slowest eater I know (people think they eat slowly until they meet me!). And I always feel full after my meal, whereas my friend at uni would wolf down her food and grumble that she was still hungry and go and find something else before her stomach had time to register that she'd eaten anything!

i don't think they needed research for that. It's a known fact that it takes 20 minutes for your brain to register you're full, therefore, if you eat quickly and finish within that 20 minutes, you'll eat more because you'll still feel hungry. Whereas, if you eat more slowly, by the time that 20 minutes is up, you feel full. When i diet i do eat very slowly, and it works, i never feel hungry after i've eaten, the problem with being a foodie isn't the hunger, it's the desire to eat. Most foodies can eat even when they're stuffed to the gills, and therein lies the problem! :)

Or if you only have 10 mins or so to grab lunch on the go , difficult to eat slowly then;) but the theory is good and sound!

I've discovered new things in the last two weeks! I've always cooked vegetables, but i've always cooked them as they are unless i have guests over. I can never be faffed to get busy. But since i started doing this, i've become more adventurous with veg, and today i have discovered a delicacy that i can't wait to have again (though it's full of garlic so i'd better not have it too often lol). Courgettes topped with garlic yoghurt with the option of toasted pine nuts...so delicious i want more, but i'm stuffed!

This is the first diet i can safely say i've enjoyed from day one, though i have to admit, going out for a birthday dinner last night with a bunch of girlfriends who were all eating and drinking themselves under the table, and me sitting there with my glass of water...wasn't the most fun i've had, but it was definitely worth it!

Gotta love the beeb! I've just been reading about the great south run in Portsmouth and there's this line "He started a computer games console fitness programme before moving on to power walking" That'll be the wii fit then! Took me a while to work out what they were talking about!
