"The report made him the first peer to be recommended for expulsion, but he resigned before this could be implemented."

'the first...' says it all, he was the one they really made an example of but someone had to take the fall, always one or two take the hit so those higher are protected...i honestly now believe if a new political party came into power (that was not purely after personal wealth and actually wanted to serve the people) we would hear things we would struggle to comprehend, and that is why you never see any new political parties that do not get hammered off the media if they show any signs at all of becoming popular.

i took my blinkers off many years ago and once i did that i was amazed at how different it all looked, people do not want to know because if they did then they would seriously need to rethink their lives, lose some of the comforts and holidays...but far too many prefer 'bragging rights' now to do without.

sadly, we can criticise and call our elected leaders at every opportunity but the people themselves are allowing things to happen.

unfortunately we can get rid of any party in an election but to be replaced by who and what, the thought of what Labour has to offer and the elected mps they have scare the **** out of me. Liberal is no better its just rich eton educated idiots wanting green policies and joining the Eu again, We as a nation need better than this, the guys on here complain about Tory's, but Sunderland has been Labour ruled for ever it seems and all local problems are theirs.

this is what i mean, we are only going to get a basic choice of two with one other rank outsider...none of those are 'in it' for any other reason than to swell their own (and families) bank accounts whether directly or indirectly (check PPA contracts during pandemic) and exactly why they will not allow any new parties to grow, they obviously do not want to lose that gravy train or let anyone in who might not be as corrupt...same as the house of lords, too many in 'jobs for life even when most workers are well past the retirement age and packed out to grass', free money for those that want it and know how to keep quiet.

cant argue with any of that, house of lords needs closing, its only fit for the aged for an afternoon slumber, nearly all MPs have second jobs as they do next to nothing for the country that's Labour and Tory and some are so thick ...yes you Diane how can you have her in government making important decisions,

i rarely took any great interest in politics, some delve so far into it and the policies they all say they have but in all honesty i can only go off what i have seen over the years, the broken promises, the @rse licking of minorities to grab a few extra votes but the real 'final straw' came when cameron sat there and looked completely without a clue when asked about the Magna Carta, that bloke was meant to have been educated at one of the top schools in the country yet knew feck all about probably the most important document in our history...maybe because it was of more importance to the people than to his brigade.

when your elected leader has no clue about the common law of the land, you know something has to change.

    Magna Carta <laugh>

Most of it has been repealed so I'm not surprised he didn't know much about it.

Dishevelled' Boris Johnson was seen 'barely able to walk' and 'holding war strategy manual' in Italian airport after partying at Russian billionaire Evgeny Lebedev's villa' when he was Foreign Secretary

An unkempt Boris Johnson flew back from a Russian billionaire's party in such a 'mess' that he could barely walk in a straight line and looked like he was about to throw up, according to a fellow passenger.

The then Foreign Secretary was on his way back to London after Perugia, Italy, after a 'heavy night' at the castle of media mogul Evgeny Lebedev when he was spotted.

People waiting in the lounge at San Francesco d'Assisi airport on April 29 2018 were shocked to see Britain's top diplomat travelling alone and clasping a war strategy manual while wearing what appeared to be 'last night's clothes'.

Boris Johnson DENIES intervening personally to help Russian-born media mogul Evgeny Lebedev get a seat in the Lords despite security fears - as he hosts Canada's Trudeau and Dutch PM in Downing Street to show united front over oligarch sanctions

    • Government under pressure to boost visas for desperate Ukraine refugees

Boris Johnson today denied intervening personally to help a Russian-born media mogul get a peerage after MI5 and MI6 raised security concerns.

The Prime Minister said it was 'simply incorrect' to suggest he influenced the intelligence services after they advised against giving a Lords' seat to Evening Standard and Independent proprietor Evgeny Lebedev.

He warned against allowing a 'witch hunt' against Russians in the UK as Labour demanded an official probe into weekend reports that he forced spooks to water down their assessment.
