Not far off my own thoughts, however we must were possible bring in players who can chip in with some goals. Don't know what percentage of goal scoring opportunities we've taken but seems like every game we miss glaring chances, last Saturday continuing the trend
I wonder when the penny will drop with some that they called it wrong, and it wasn't just the Allams that were causing the reductions in fan numbers? You can't solve a problem until you understand it.
.... and as others have said, it's not just about the forwards (not) scoring. CB's should be chipping in with a few from set pieces - they aren't. Midfielders should be chipping in with more than a few - they aren't. Someone posted Doc's non-existent scoring & assist record. Smallwood is regularly missing chances, not even forcing saves. Honeyman has scored goals for us, but it's pretty much dried up for some time. Massive overhaul needed if we're honest, and I'm sure there will be. I was happy to hear the talk about not blocking the young ones - hopefully a new squad can be built that finally has a good blend of youth (KLP, Fleming, Jones, Greaves), experience and quality.
So what were (are) the reasons? 1. Dislike (put mildly) of the Allams and their actions 2. Total lack of ambition (the Allams) 3. A squad cobbled together on a shoe string (the Allams) 4. Affordability 5. ??? It will take time to repair the damage.
I've asked a few people I know that no longer go, and local 'football' fans why they don't go, and few of them offered those reasons.
So what was the consensus? Found other things to do / got out of the habit? (caused by 1 to 3, along with the forced break of Covid, with 4 possibly kicking in too).
It was mixed and varied, but by far the bulk were tired of being told it was due to the Allams, which they themselves do not believe to be the case. I see no point in going through all the bits, from what was around 20 or so people from a mixed spectrum, but I think it would be well worth the club doing some sort of survey of people in this area to get a handle on the issues, as if they're basing it on social media, it's a far from representative sample of people with a fixed mindset imho.
I've long thought we should be selling Kebabs on the concourse. They'd make a bloody fortune if they were good ones.
Social media isn't a representative sample, but your personal conversations with around 20 people are? And it's just a coincidence that on the whole they have the same view as you, which you've been vaguely hinting at for years without ever putting any specifics to it, and which is way out of step with the issues people are actually talking about on any visible platform. OK. Acun and his team know what they're doing. It'll take time but they're sorting it. Crowds are already well up and it's only going to keep improving.
I made the very point that mine wasn't a representative sample, so I can only guess why you'd try to spin it that way. On the whole, they didn't have the same view as me either, so you can chalk that failure up too. My main point is, it needs a proper look at how to attract people to the stadium, as clearly, the previous claims do not seem to be standing up.
Every last person I used to go with, stopped going because of the antics of the Allams and they were fans who had been going for many years.
In the small circle of people I know who stopped going, 3 stopped because of the Allams and are now back , the remaining 4 stopped due to financial reasons and are not back full time, but came on the £2 tickets. Obviously lots of differing reasons, my dear old Dad , always said City supporters are fickle and love to support a winning team. I didn't stop going , it's a small pleasure (??) I have at 76 years old and why would I cut my nose off to spite my face ?
I think affordability for a 1 off is the main issue, the deals are good for 6/12 savers but some of these people simply cannot afford to spend £27 on a 90 minute game of football. the quality of the game then makes them even less likely. would love to know how many people actually pay the £27 for a one off ticket. Memberships are great value but the pay on day/one off tickets aren’t for the quality of football on display. Which doesn’t matter to certain people but others it does.
I try to make 2 home games a month with my partner. £108 a month isn’t astronomical but I can see why people without memberships can’t afford that expense on top of other outgoings. The membership is good value for money though and I will be getting one in the summer.
Reckon your dear old dad was right. Results and affordability are reasons people stop going before anything to do with the Allams, imo.
So why did attendances drop off even during successful, winning periods under the Allams? Allams. Affordability. Lack of ambition. Results. A toxic mix that as several are saying will take some time to reverse. Next season could, hopefully, look very different.
Definitely the first one, affordability of tickets is low for everyone all across the football league
As well as the Allams don't forget many people have just fallen out of love with football in general (ridiculous wages, little change in PL winners, Euro Leagues, VAR etc) Once you lose fans is much harder to get them back than simply resolving what might have for some been the main issue and for others was just the straw that broke the back.
