Honeyman isn’t a good passer in the final third, he’s got a good dead ball but other then that he is a “ratter” who should be used as that with late runs into the box to score goals which he was doing at the start of the season.
That certainly seems to be the thinking currently. My problem is I just don't see how we improve. If we're down at the bottom because we've got no quality on the ball, but we can't afford to play anyone who does have that quality, what's the answer?
I also would like to see a centre half who can head the ball at corners and set pieces. There is very little in goal threat from a lot of the players.
Nice to see Huddlestone and Livermore having a chat at half time….however bit disturbing when Livermore covered his mouth for the last part of the conversation….not sure it was a Covid measure!
They all do it. So nobody can lip read them. Probably asking why he isn’t starting ahead of Smallwood & Doc.
We need to strike the balance of a ball winner and someone who can play on both sides of the ball. Honeyman Slater and Hudds or Walsh to dictate. Ultimately we are playing with 3 central players who’s main strength is the same thing. Doc for me doesn’t start another game this season, I really had high hopes for him at this level but it’s clear to see why no one higher has ever taken a punt on him. Smallwood was the brightest of he midfielders but if Walsh was surrounded by the right players unlike at Derby I think he could make a real difference to us going forward as technically he’s probably 2nd to Hudds.Would love the left hand side to be able to link up the way they do without KLP too so that he could be in the box tapping the very good crosses that we put in at the back post. We really lack a right hand side going forwards meaning we are very predictable. As for January recruitment we weren’t going to get much better then this unless we paid stupid money which would’ve only hurt us in summer when it’s abit more open. It wasn’t great yesterday but there was certainly more positives then I feel people are giving credit for.
Docherty has zero goals and 1 assist this season. That’s pretty woeful for a box-to-box midfielder. He’s a solid League 1 player but I think that’s about it. Shame because I had high hopes for him.
Same for me. I guess L1 is his natural level, I honestly thought he was set for premier league success in the near future
Grant was always suggesting National Team for him. Never getting a look in for that whilst they have the likes of McGinn, Gilmour, McTominay etc
Agreed. I was hoping he’d kick on and be one of our stand-out players this season with his endless energy and powerful runs but he just hasn’t. His first touch is quite poor, he runs without purpose, his vision and passing aren’t great etc. When he gets the ball he just looks like he doesn’t know what to do with it. He looks a bit like a rugby player trying to play football at times. Very bizarre and disappointing.
Yeah that’s a good view on him, never knows what he’s going to do with the ball before he gets it so loses it so much when he panics. Still think he can adjust as all the other elements of his game are good, well out of possession.
Huddlestone is NOT our best midfielder, he’s not even in the top 3. Maybe was 5 years ago. Saying things like “ if he had the legs “ or “ if he could stay fit “ How about “ if the Doc could pass line Xavi and dribble like Messi “
KLP, Honeyman, maybe Longman. I think the defence is what it is, young, inexperienced & out of their depth. There’s no way Greaves is being looked at by a team who’s expecting to stay in the PL, IF he is being scouted, it’ll be by a yo-yo team, at best a perennial relegation battler. Even then I’d expect them to loan him out to a Championship team to try & get some better experience than he has now. He’s still young, but he has awful bad habits of grabbing players, I don’t know if refs have been told to turn a blind eye at corners when it comes to shirt grabbing & pulling players, but I’m shocked he hasn’t given away over 10 penalties in the last couple of seasons. I really hope we sort that out of our game, it’s like watching Sunday league players at times!
Yet in relative terms our defensive record this season is better than our scoring record. Doesn't exactly support the idea we have better attacking players than defenders does it? They're just a young squad and are going to be inconsistent until we can get some quality, experienced players in and around them
In Tan’s interview in the hdm on Friday he said this We will create a competitive team at one point in the future, that’s our goal, but having said that, we will not bring in players that will stop us producing players,” Kesler told Hull Live. “We have three academy players in our team and they’re all valuable – Jacob, Brandon and Keane, While it’s laudable and we would all ice to see a full 11 of hull born players playing for city it’s not realistic at all. it’s also very worrying We need to spend money on new players We don’t and we wil stay in the relegation part of the table. It will also push players like potter and greaves out the door as they will see no ambition from the owner
I have faith in Kesler and Acun’s summer transfer policy. I don’t see how it can be worse than Ehab’s after hamstringing us with a loan he refused to pay back to the EFL and signing League 1 players on Bosmans.
I’m certain I didnt bring the Allams transfer policy into my post so I have no idea why you’re comparing it But In effect tan is saying what ehab was saying about sustainability. If he does it won’t work
