    All,

Part of a convo on another thread got me thinking of weird and wonderful rituals that we do before a match.

We know that it makes all the difference between winning and losing.

    Here are my current ones:
    • If I am at the match I have to wear my Saints shirt and I always put my left shoe on first.
    • If I watch on TV I have to wear my away Napoli shirt (the red one)
    • Dishwasher game
    • I have to bet on the opposition.
    What are yours?

(If you all dare to admit it!!)

I make an animal sacrifice on the morning of a game.
Well, part of an animal anyway, specifically the bacon.
And it's more cook than sacrifice, but it's still a ritual.
I'm fact, I sometimes let my wife carry out the ritual on my behalf so it's a fairly loose superstition.

But I do it every week, and it always feels like something is wrong with the day until I've done it.

This might just be coincidental, and might actually be because I really really like bacon.

    Where to begin...

    - When I watch games on my laptop (most games), the mouse curser has to be positioned the opposite end to where Saints are attacking. Our goalie end. Second half it stays in the same position, thus where Saints are attacking.

    - I get a drink before the game, and at half time, but never during the action.

    - I don't comment on this forum during the game, only half-time and at the end.

    - I don't look at my phone during the game, especially not WhatsApp. (My mum has lost us so many points because she'll write something like 'Are we winning?' and that totally just f*cks everything up. Instantly concede, inevitable defeat.

    - No Saints players ever, in my Fantasy Football team.

    - When opposition are attacking I visualise a favourable (for us) outcome in my mind. For example, just before they take a corner, I will imagine Forster catching the ball.

    - I either wear my glasses or I don't. I can't change my mind during the game.

There's a lot more but I don't want to risk people thinking I'm weird.

Our recent upturn in form coincided with my dad buying Werthers Originals and me taking a handful to St Marys in my pocket. This was a ritual during the 2002/3 season, when my son used to come with us. So naturally we’re going to Wembley this season.

None of my lucky bits of tat, including the seagull-**** resistant hat, have proved particularly reliable the last few seasons, but I’m experiencing a recent upturn in fortune for the hat.

I have red underwear choices, red Saints polo shirt, well worn as are the red Billabong shorts that Mrs Jab is attempting to patch to avoid embarrassing displays of mottled flesh. I'll have a few mood stabilising beers at my local and plenty of Palm beer in the fridge. After match mood dependant on result of late pretty bloody good. COYR!

This is my Saints mug. There are many like it but this one is mine. I drink out of this mug every match day and it just so happens that every time we've won, I've drunk from this mug. It has to be more than coincidence.

I wear my late father's scarf (he wore it to Wembley in 76) at home, at the game or secreted on my body at work, irrelevant of the weather and any strange looks I get.

Oh yes, also never bet on Saints. I stopped after 2-2 draw with Villa 3FAC 1976. Haven’t dared since.

For half of our games I always like to have my season ticket in my pocket. I am not sure whether it affects the outcome of any game but it does mean I can get into St Marys.

Matchday routine. I get the tickets from the drawer and pop them into my jacket pocket and then we drive into town. We park up and walk to the ground. We always sit in the same seats.
I used to keep this ritual quiet because people might think we were weird but this season I'm quite open about it.

I think there were plans afoot to have it downloaded to an e-wallet, which might be beyond me should it come to pass.

Bugger, just made a cup of tea and conceded. No tea to be made during a match
