Slightly jealous at Lancs picking up Tim David for the Blast. I was hoping that we might be able to get him, especially after his stint with the Brave last season. He's something of a perfect white ball overseas acquisition, in that he's unlikely to be an original overseas pick in the 100 but is happy to hang around after the Blast and play 50 over cricket (in the hope of being a replacement player in the 100). He showed for Surrey last season that he was a class above in the 50 over comp.
Thankfully not a cardiac arrest. Just felt a bit faint and fell. That was really odd. One moment all was fine then silence and a thump as he hit the ground off screen. The one image the cameras showed was him lying face down on the ground so it looked like he had gone into cardiac arrest. Thankfully he's fine.
Cricinfo have announced a number of the 100 player retentions. They haven't published the entire list, but presumably that will be released soon. Our 10 retentions include Vince, Jordan, Mills, Lintott, Davies, Garton, Stoinis and David. I'm taking a guess at the other two being Overton and Whiteley (unless I've forgotten someone?). Dawson, Briggs, Rawlins and QDK all confirmed as being released. But apparently we will use our "right to match" card to get QDK back, which will mean our three overseas players are Stoinis, David and QDK. (This would rule out the likes of Warner or Russell being our other two retentions, hence my thinking of Overton and Whiteley.) Archer is separately retained as our England player. It makes a lot of sense to use our right to match card on QDK, thinking about it. The right to match card guarantees that you get the player, so in a sense it's an 11th retention. But it requires you to get that player at the price which another teams bids at - which in theory could be more than the price you would have paid if you'd retained them within your 10. However, that risk is removed when dealing with a top bracket player like QDK - it's impossible for his price to go up by dropping him back into the draft pool first. From a Hampshire point of view, Wood joins Dawson in not having been retained. But Crane and Wheal both have been. The likes of Banton, Clarke, Evans and Kohler-Cadmore are amongst the bigger names who are being released.
Probably a realistic option for staying on for the 50 over comp too. If we can add a decent bowling all-rounder as our second overseas (eg Holder), we could have a really strong looking side on paper. Something like: Donald McDermott Vince Weatherley Prest Whiteley Bowling all-rounder Dawson Wood Crane Wheal With the likes of Currie and Fuller in reserve. Maybe Brown, Gubbins and McManus too.
Also on General Sports thread but will repeat on here: Shane Warne has died at 52 due to a suspected heart attack.
Oh no! Rodney and now Shane ….. that’s desperately sad Seems appropriate to post this as a fitting tribute to one of the true greats
What...??!!! Was reading the BBC article earlier about Rod Marsh and it has a tweet in there from Shane that was posted earlier today
