Poor form from Ukraine this making Russian soldiers do these videos. Imagine the outcry if Russia were releasing videos of Ukrainian soldiers saying they were = told they were going on military exercises (I appreciate this vid isn't an example of the latter) and ended up fighting Ukrainians

 

To me they look like they're enjoying it and mischievously watching the fight as voyeurs in that picture. (And there may be some truth in that with many people do actually enjoy watching... As horrific as it is, the war is fascinating to many people and sadly makes good watching... Not that those watching necessarily want bad things to happen to others).

 

To be fair the twitter feed says it's a fan page, so not sure how official Ukraine it is any more than Fox News paying Muslims to cheer on video in Palestine after 9-11 was an official American government operation.

That said, if the video prevents one person being shot or killed, is it really bad form? Saving a life worth more than causing a minor humiliation. (A soldier who surrenders won't shoot anyone and won't be shot by anyone)

Ok, yes, there are some twats in history who killed POW, but unless I'm heavily mistaken, I think it's very unlikely that will be the case with Ukraine. Committing war crimes in a war you're almost certainly going to lose is a bit of a stupid thing to do.

 

the killing of some surrendered soldiers is actually fairly routine but no it wouldn'thappen in this case though if this war carries on who knows .

 

I think it's more likely if you're Russian and black.

 

If you're Russian and black, statistically you've already been killed a few times by now. Russians are just as racist as the Ukrainians.

Regardless, humiliating POWs is against the Geneva Convention and technically a war crime. So is shelling civilian areas indiscriminately. Point is, the Geneva Convention is there for a reason, and all belligerents have to abide by them. The enemy committing war crimes isn’t a valid defence for committing war crimes yourself under international law.

 

Pretty sure the azov unit (is that what they are called) were killing people indiscriminately in eastern ukraine before this war which i imagine has made relations all the more worse.

 

Doubt I've ever seen a black russian or ukrainian soldier. But I bet the asian bloke I watched on the news going to join foreign legion in Ukraine will be sent straight to the front line...or shot from behind.

 

Especially when you can't even label them as "illegal combatants"

Maybe we can make up a new bullshit phrase to work around it?
