Italian police have seized villas and yachts worth at least €140m (£126m) from four high-profile Russians who were placed on an EU sanctions list after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, sources told Reuters today. A police source said a villa owned by the billionaire businessman Alisher Usmanov on Sardinia, and a villa on Lake Como owned by the Russian state TV host Vladimir Soloviev, had both been seized. In addition, sources confirmed that yachts belonging to Russia’s richest man, Alexei Mordashov, and Gennady Timchenko, who has close ties with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, were impounded overnight in northern Italian ports. If the UK is leading the way, it must be going for some really big targets then.
According to Forbes magazine, Mordashov's family are estimated to be 'worth' £22 billion. No-one is worth that much - I hope that all of their assets outside of Russia are seized and used to improve the lives of all citizens in the countries they are seized from. Not that I expect that to happen in the UK though.
"When we arrived in Calais on Wednesday, we had been driving non-stop for more than 24 hours," he says. "At the port, the British customs told us that I could go back to England. But not my wife or my daughter... And we found ourselves there, exhausted, without knowing where to go." “Fortunately, people were very welcoming and told us to come and sleep here,” he continues. They are accommodated with sixty other Ukrainians by the town hall of Calais in a youth hostel specially opened since Monday, a thick concrete building in the middle of buildings. As of Thursday evening, residents of the surrounding area brought basic necessities such as clothes, diapers, or baby bottles. According to French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, some 150 Ukrainians from Calais have been asked by the British "to turn around" and "go to Paris or Brussels" to get their visas. He deplores a "totally unsuitable" response and a "lack of humanity". The above is from a French news report, and will have been widely seen. As seen by the response in the UK to this war, both vocally and donations from ordinary people, they have far more humanity than the government. This saddens me so much as it is not the country I grew up in or the type of ruling party that had concern for people. Many of the English I speak to believe that the country has lost its soul and will not become a valued member of the International community until the past decade can be put on the bonfire of false ideology.
Apparently Facebook & Twitter have been shut down in Russia - to keep the population in the dark about what's going on.
That Led by Donkeys lot are superb. This is yet another peep behind the façade of bullshit we are fed to keep the very dodgy status quo. Are we less corrupt than others? Are these the great British values we tell ourselves that raise us above the rest of the world?
BORIS'S SIX POINT PLAN TO DEFEAT PUTIN. This is his Falklands moment, say Tories as PM holds war briefings under Maggie's portrait. Sunday Mail Meanwhile on bbcr5L the political correspondent Helen Catt is telling listeners that Johnson is purely gathering together statements from world leaders and presenting them as original thoughts. Maybe the bbc is trying to be honest by detaching itself from the politically influenced newspapers?
Home Secretary Priti Patel says the UK has set up a visa application centre near Calais. She was precisely asked about this,by her own MPs, and she said that they did not have to go to Paris and that there were people in Calais!! But No 10 says there isn't one there though Govt will "keep it under review". please log in to view this image Now Priti Patel admits the processing centre is *not* actually set up yet - but that the Home Office is planning one. I take it she will return to the Commons to apologise and set the record straight.
