Nailed it Ralph! Certainly thought you got it wrong but absolutely nailed it. 2x quality subs at HT made sure we could use 5 & have gas left if needed in ET. 3x cracking goals. Brilliant from Perraud & Broja & a lot of credit to JWP for a crucial pen. Only worry for was how vulnerable we looked at the big bloke corners but apart :emoticon-0165-muscl:emoticon-0165-muscl:emoticon-0165-muscl
Edit: Nice words from Moyes. Very magnanimous.

I was pointing out how unlikely it was that the sort of characters who likely make up KUMB would even know.

Fantastic result! Couldn’t make this one as was at work but delighted to see we smashed West Ham again and are through to the next round! COYR

p.s. hope the crowd gave unrelenting boos and songs against the cat kicker.

Ok Ralph got the result and we're through and i'm delighted of course, I still prefer to see our PL team starting the next round though.
I thought that Valery and Smallbone were terrific and it proves how well they are being coached but they are still back ups at this stage. From now on if Ralph wants to give players time on the pitch he should use the rest of the league season to experiment.

Love this comment on BBC live commentary.

Good luck to whoever has to face Southampton in the last eight, especially if they have to come here.

Given the next round is on a weekend and it's the QF I'm 90% sure he'll go full strength. Maybe Willy in goal though.

Yes, Valery was excellent, as was Stephens.

Last year, we progressed to the semi-finals mainly because of the draw. Our league form was wretched and it showed against Leicester. This time we're absolutely flying and no one will envy playing us.

The great thing about coming on here after the match is that you can laugh at all the stupid comments and know that you personally had no doubts. Or at least no doubts that anyone can find in print :)

In my defence, I wasn’t a long way off
Can’t account for a Perraud worldie!

After a few minutes we really settled in and dominated Spam ... with our 2nd team!

    Like Jack Yan defence
Perraud & JWP keep getting better
Everyone did well, except Moussa who is soooo random

The Northern were better distributed for this game and the fans sung loud and long. Indeed the crowd booed the cat kicker and also sung "Zouma, Zouma where are your cats, where are you cats?" <laugh>

Ralph was right on his selection, when initially it looked off. Pleased to see the impact Smallbone made, Perraud was very good, especially in the first half when Djenepo decided to go walkabout or ball watch and not bother to watch where Johnson was going (usually into a nice open space in front of Perraud).

Other slight negative on the night that Adam Armstrong seems to be really struggling, was conspicuously absent for much of the game.

In fairness, they complained about the penalty decision a lot less than I thought they would. The majority of them hate Broja, though wish he was playing for them. Interestingly they think we're a ****house team, which these days makes me very proud.

He looks low on confidence. He needs to play, maybe he should start the 1/4 final alongside Broja.

I’m going through the thread now. Apparently we are a joke of a club for having empty seats

Do they fill their dodgy ill-gotten taxpayer funded stadium every single match then? Helps when you are in the biggest city in Europe (yes I know there are loads of clubs there but still)

And with a link to the comment about player appearances - they seem to knock Broja’s (Albanian Jimmy Hill). I read the last page first

Why not start him against Villa or Toon instead?

Depends who we draw next will determine whether he should play or not. Cannot fault the effort but somehow the game by-passes by him, and when he gets the ball, nothing seems to come off for him.

Um, it's going to be some choice for Saints goal of the season this year. We've got: JWP v Wolves, S. Armstrong v Coventry, Perraud tonight, Adams v Watford, Romeu v Norwich, A. Armstrong v Villa, JWP v Palace, KWP v Man City. And there's still plenty of games left.

Just got back. Like many, I thought maybe one or two too many changes tonight but the meltdown on here around 7pm was perhaps a little OTT. In the event I don't think any Saints player (apart from poor Djenepo) failed to put in a decent shift in the first half. We did, however, lack the fluidity and aggression of the last few games and in truth, with a very strong Wet Spam lineup, they should have capitalised on that. They failed.

Djenepo for me just shows how the squad has improved this last year (leaving him behind). He's a decent footballer but not intelligent. He's also very lightweight which he should be using to his advantage by running into the box and winning free kicks but when he tries, he just leaves the ball behind! Very frustrating.

Good subs at HT for him and the injured Long. Suddenly we looked a better balanced side and more aggressive. Despite giving WH a hot spell where Willy gifted them a goal, we thoroughly deserved the win. Cracking goals. Especially loved Broja beating Zouma for the 3rd. Bit a cat burglar goal I thought.
