It's a difficult one that. There is an exodus going on at the moment. Trains and buses are packed and Ukrainians want to get out. Is prioritising Ukrainian nationals an example of racism, or a logistical necessity ?
I was reading about a few cases of racism yesterday, also trying to establish what media sources were running the stories, as I felt it had been kept a bit low key. Not something you are going to see on your main news channel such as SKY. Why is that I ask, does it not fit the propaganda trail, after all, think back to some of Putins claims, about certain groups <cough> Houston I think we have a problem.
Boris in Warsaw, Poland this morning, although he's forgot his cigar. "We shall fight on the beaches."
we are basically seeing nothing from the Donbass area where the fiercest fighting is taking place and haven't seen much from the South where the Russians seem to be making reasonable progress .
That don’t look good. Statement from Polish border guards saying that they are trying to enable everybody to get through, but are prioritising those with Ukrainian passports. Those with foreign passports will have to go to the back of the queue read into that what you will.
Anyway, short of signing up for the Ukrainian territorial forces, it’s difficult to know what you can do to help. So I’m getting involved with a local group who are collecting supplies to send out to the borders at Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. Gonna donate some stuff myself and do some collections locally to take to drop off points. I’ve also written to Sainsburys, Tesco and Morrisons to see if they will help too. Seeing as they have the supplies and logistical connections Feel free to copy and paste if you want to do something similar. I dunno, maybe if enough people do likewise it will spur them into mobilising some supplies. ‘With the unfolding humanitarian crisis and refugee situation in Ukraine, lots of community groups are trying to organise the collection and supply of the following items to send to refugees. Could you please inform me whether sainsburys as a major UK supermarket, with international logistics connections are going to assist with the supply and delivery of the following much needed items bandages / sterile swabs / wound dressings foil blankets nitrile gloves saline solution antiseptic cream plasters nappies baby feeding bottles pacifiers Baby milk formula / powder long lasting baby foods candles and matches torches and batteries small bottles of drinking water Many thanks
I remember at the beginning of the invasion, a Brit in Ukraine was interviewed, he was staying for as long as possible to be with his Ukranian partner. They had enough fuel to make a run for the border. Point being back to the video, when they both go to the border, if the Ukranians or the Polish are applying the criteria Ukranian passports only, then he could be made to go back to the back of the queue, while his partner could cross sooner. What the Ukranians and Polish would be overlooking, he being a British passport holder, might meet the criteria for his partner to come back to the UK with him. So doing something based on passport is ridiculous, because I've not heard anything that suggests Russia are purposely targeting Ukranian citizens compared to any other passport holders on the same route..
I dunno mate. Are any passports getting checked ? Maybe the Polish are at the border. But some of those videos are at train stations in Ukraine. It looks like a chaotic scene, are some non Ukrainian nationals being held back from getting on trains, it looks like it. Is that happening all over Ukraine ? I don’t know.
