He has not already lost and has put himself in a position where he dare not lose. He has encountered a much sterner opposition than he (for some reason) expected and will now have to up the anti to gain control and hope that someone comes up with an acceptable political agreement so a peaceful withdrawl can take place with all coming out as winners.
The only similarity I see, but which is one we need to learn from is that we allowed Hitler to take Austria, then Bohemia and it was only when we he invaded Poland realized he's never going to stop. Putin has already subdued Chechnyan independence, invaded Georgia, Crimea, Eastern Moldova, now going back for a bigger chunk of Ukraine. If he succeeds he won't stop. Then we face the prospect of, where do we draw a line and when will we get dragged into war? Obviously Russia is very different to WWII Germany, it's the lesson of an empire builder not stopping conquest after conquest that we have to fear. That's the only legitimate comparison to WWII.
BTW, just want to say that I find the likelihood of all out war between Russia and NATO unlikely. It wouldn't surprise me though if this isn't the last proxy war we fight with Russia and it may be more common now because theyve got no reputation left to protect.
Bcos I cba OK fck it look there's no doubt and no question that what Putin's done in invading Ukraine is abhorrent and an atrocity. There's just no justification for it. But every minute of every day since the invasion the media (and now social media) does what it always does. Putin the crazy, mad dog, evil dictator, I've seen numerous news channels and breakfast shows, one doing a whole biography on him all leading up to a conclusion he's rabid, and others inviting two bit psychologists on trying to diagnose Putin's mental health on TV and radio (I've seen this a few times now) even one basing it on the effects of his botox . The whole Hitler WW2 comparison is part of it imo. It's almost like we're being prepped for something or some endgame. All I want is the facts tbh brb as far as what's happening on the ground in Ukraine and what the world is doing about it.
He’s united the entire world against him, he’s sent an army that doesn’t want to fight into a war they can only win by murdering millions of their neighbours, he’s provoked protests in every Russian city despite threatening the public to stay indoors, he’s so isolated he has to sit 12 feet away from his own advisers. Does that look like winning to you? There’s no way this ends well for him, and the greatest irony of all is, he’s provided Ukraine with the cause that will turn a young republic into a nation, which was the exact thing he wanted to prevent.
You don't have to convince me mate, I agree with you. The Western media have already worked their magic of portraying Putin as some bat shhite crazy guy. Much like China is often cast in the same mould, but I remind myself that the UK is but a mere 70 million people, Russia is a population of 144 million, and as for China my calculator has run out of numbers, a billion something, but somehow Boris is more sane than them, seriously!? Wobbles head, and walks off.
I remember a nation of 70 million people, once believing Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Now that same nation is convinced by the very same media, that Putin is bat shhite crazy, funny old world, yet the real war criminal is still treading that very same land as a free man and he don't look a tad crazy, no siree.
They are ALL bat **** crazy and power hungry. We should send them all to live in The Fletcher Memorial Home for Incurable Tyrants and Kings
He has already taken back quite a bit of the old USSR with hardly a whisper in the western news, why do you think this time they are all screaming WW111. Ukraine were being courted by NATO and as such could become a valuable asset and a threatening place to Russia, he can't allow that but the West see it as vital, so, now we have a conflict that is pushed at us 24/7 when others went barely noticed by the general populace of the west. Agenda's are the thing to look at in any conflict like this and how it's portrayed in the news.
I don’t need the media to know putin is a touch crazy I think anyone who sees themselves as a leader of a nation as a touch unhinged. They all want power and respect, and that’s not a trait I particular like. So I avoid politics in general as they’re generally self serving ****ers.
I don't know 'The Fletcher Memorial Home for Incurable Tyrants and Kings' did you go on a tour guide?
Actually he's only taken back the parts of the USSR that were Russia before bits of it got divvied out for political expediency.
Not only that, but he's turned Zelensky into a hero whilst the world thinks Putin's a cowardly little pussy.
There's no doubt he's a ruthless ****. But at the moment I'm basing his actions during the invasion on events. He's not gone full blitzkrieg (the irony of me comparing to WW2 now ) but as a few have commented he's got so much more arsenal to deploy if (and lets hope never) he decides to. What he is capable of, is what we were doing to Baghdad on just the first night of bombing in the Iraq War. Or what Israel does with white phosphorous bombs in Gaza, one of the densest built up areas in the world. If he's a batshit crazed madman what does that make us or them?
Pink Floyd reference. The names are a bit out of date but you could easily swap them for Putin, Blair and Kim Jong Whatever
