Short of lobbing a Nuke at someone Putin is really looking at less options everyday. Hopefully the Ukraine can carry on holding them off. The Russian soldiers don't seem eager to fight their neighbours and the Ukrainians are literally driving past tanks bollocking them as the drive past. If it wasn't so serious it would be funny. Putin might have ****ed up here and he is realising it. Just depends on his ego and how far he is willing to go. A cornered man has little to lose. He might just lob one over the fence.
Hacking group Anonymous have declared Cyber war on Russia. The were soon able to take down the Kremlin official TV website along with RT news website as well as disabling Russian government websites. No mate, he can escalate this massively. He hasn't used his major artillery and he hasn't even started proper full scale aerial bombardment. Pray that doesn't happen because the devestation that'll cause to buildings/homes and loss of life will be catastrophic. Plus he still has half the soldiers he put on the border waiting on the border. I agree though that his comments about nuclear deterrence is like a threat to **** everyone up. Thing is though, I tend to think he's capable of using it.

Is he doing all this on his own though? No doubt he's hell bent on it and if someone takes him out then it's probably all over. But even Hitler had a heirarchy of ****s around him running the political agenda and war machine. How many of us know or even hear about who Putin's sidekicks are.
All NATO members are legally committed to fight any aggression against a NATO member ... if the aggressor was another NATO member it might get a bit complicated... but if the aggressor was non NATO we would be obliged to send troops in ... as would all NATO members
We just doubled the number of troops we have in Estonia two days ago because of our commitment to defend them, so yes I think there is no doubt we would.
I think it's precisely because we don't want to be having to defend an Eastern European NATO country that we've put troops in Estonia. It means that it becomes Putin's decision to kick off, not about him going in and then us having to decide whether to respond. It's tactically absolutely the right move.
They've just sent in an additional 850 troops so it's 1700 British lives that wouldn't be put at risk if they didn't take the commitment seriously IMO.
you do realise Nato is a multi country organisation .Basically it all comes down to does the USA want to go to war which may lead to armageddon over some little country in eastern europe .This is the problem with the Nato expansion as its original members were all either vital western countries or next to them which almost amounts to the same thing in big conflicts but estonia et al i'm not so convinced though Russias actions in Ukraine do make it more likely .
Yes of course I do. The US has far more troops stationed in Eastern Europe than we do, but the increase in British troops just happened to be the article I read this week. I'd like to think that if we had an alliance then we would honour it (and by we I mean NATO). If we don't then the whole alliance would fall apart and be meaningless. Its a fair question to ask though. When Ukraine disposed of its nuclear weapons we promised to step in and defend them (both Russia and the West) if they were attacked by either other side. We haven't risked World War III to honour that promise so who knows what we would do.
I agree with that. That's why we haven't matched either the US or the EU in terms of our sanctions list, having left off both individuals and companies that have either funded UK politicians or that (in one case) has a Tory peer on its board. It stinks, but its the way things work at the minute. It shouldn't be though.
