But it was even more awful when he came in a more critical position. He at one point was literally named in team of the season 2nd only to Vincent Kompany. Search 2011/12 team PL team of the season and you'll see tonnes of articles praising him for his improvement.
So here's a thing: We bought him for £40m. At his nadir we'd have been lucky so get £10m for him.... So what would you value him at right now?
Every player has a price, what would you say he's worth. So right now he's one of the best midfielders in the Prem and only 25, what's he worth?
I'd go higher tbh, if we saw him playing like he is now for another team, I'd easily think £60m was worth shelling out to get him.
I’d say £50m+ but to us he is currently invaluable. It’s amazing his transformation. He really is an absolute beast.
Best thing is, he’s still learning the position and will get a lot better at it yet and without the pressure to be top scorer he’ll calm down a bit up front and actually score more.
Agreed - he's priceless to us at present, but I wouldn't sell him for less than a 50% profit on what we paid for him tbh. Honestly never seen anything quite like it. Even in December I'd have said sell him for £15m if you can get that but now.... Genuinely think he will be spoken about for years and years if he keeps this up and stays with us - future players who turn up and are ****e, the fans will be hoping they "pull a Joelinton".
He's solved a massive problem. His age, an'all - got years ahead of him. Him, Bruno and Willock could be the focal point of this team for 5 years and all three don't need replacing. Need probably one quality player behind them to allow us to ship out Hayden and Longstaff, but what a midfield trio. What we've seen is that the opposition know how we're going to line up and midfield, and not one opponent has been able to live with them. When Shelvey eventually loses his place to Bruno, it's gonna be immense. Delighted with the progress of Willock as well, such an intelligent player. Means we can spend a lot more time fixing the CF issue.....
I just had a thought that it might be worth seeing if we can get one that scores goals? Radical idea, I know, but might be one to consider. Failing that, even one who knows what a "shot" or "header" is could be a step in the right direction.
It's obvious. We need to break our transfer record on a frankly unremarkable CM and then just play him up front one day
Chris Wood is a god. 6 games Team amasses 14 points. What a guy. He's the common denominator of the changes introduced since Watford. Its entirely down to him. I think Roland loves him really, and is just doing a reverse psychology thing like Chaos. If he keeps saying he's ****, he keeps playing well and we keep winning.
