Hopefully they will have more man power to focus on other performance gains than the other teams who have to solve the porpoising issues.
That’s what I hope too- perhaps catapult them into the fight at the front but I know it’s a huge ask.
I do love the McLaren colour scheme, probably as my fav colour has always been orange I like the blue too.
McLaren to complete a filming day on Wednesday- presumably an opportunity to just get a little bit of system testing done prior to testing on Thursday
That's quite tight timing to get the car to Bahrain, then again they should have 2 as first race is only a little over 10 days away.
IMo this car will be one of the most changes or should be. It really doesn't look like its hit either end of the aero innovation spectrum and just feels like its going to be a middle of the road package. (well that is assuming one end of the spectrum is right and the other is fundamentally wrong)
The lack of porpoising was interesting. Either they have a design which is inherently resistant to it or the whole thing isn't anywhere near as close to the ground as the others.
that's it isn't it? is there enough down force at all or are they just better than the other teams in stability. only time will tell i suppose.
I think Andreas Seidl looked really pleased at Barcelona- he’s a very grounded guy but there was just something in the way he interviewed that week which told me McLaren might have got something fundamentally right. Remember they have gone for the mixed suspension - front and rear are pull rod and push (or vice Verca) and a lot of people were worried about that. I think they are probably in a good place for a baseline - I think a lot of eyes on on Red Bull and Mercedes who we expect are bringing a raft of car updates and will be turning the wick up this week- really is crunch time. The steps those two make with their new parts will dictate where McLaren and Ferrari are. It would be superb to see those four closely matched at the front. The one who intrigue me the most is Alpine. They are like a half McLaren (slim rear) but with a bit of a half version of the Ferrari/Aston sidepod. They are the hybrid of approaches and Pat Fry is a wiley old fox- be very intrigued to see what additions they bring this week having appeared to do a baseline test in Barca, especially mapping and playing with their new engine.
I've got high hopes for Macca this season. Just hope it goes a little better than the Indy season opener for them.
Looks like mcl have slits in their wheel deflectors! I don't think I have seen that before? Just spotted Alfa have slits as well. Probably just that we can now see roll hoop camera.
It was the over wheel things, not sure what they are actually called. I think some of them are solid and some have a vertical slit in them when seen from the roll hoop cameras.
Tricky day for McLaren today with brake duct issues. That said, managed to get within 2 tenths of Sainz on the same tyre. Apparently McLarens new parts are slated for tomorrow and Saturday, so let’s see what they had scheduled.
