This is boring now. When it happens to favour a top 6 club it’s suspicious, when it goes the other way it’s just poor refereeing? The reality is how we good VAR could be it has its flaws and the main one is inconsistent usage by the officials using it. Not on purpose, just they make (too many) mistakes abs there’s no ‘quality control’ built in currently
There is poor usage and there is literal cheating. Today was an example of actual blatant cheating. He’s controlled it with his arm, not hint of an accident about it. Yet VAR ignored it. Ludicrous
Inconsistent refereeing has been happening way before VAR came in. Now I admit there should be less of this **** with referees being able to watch replays. But the inconsistencies aren't just going to disappear. I go back to the point I've been making for months - there is a total lack of leadership and coaching for referees. Mike Riley is the problem. Get rid of him as head of the PGMOL and things will improve.
Decisions like this encourage hyperbole or thoughts of conspiracy, it's only natural with the hegemony, the amount of money in the game and the obscene wealth of the clubs that dominate the sport.
How exactly are they measuring the connection between the club and fanbase to arrive at that conclusion ?
But then again what do I know? Type Bielsa into Google and there are loads of tweets like the one above Things like “don’t cry because it is over - smile because it happened” etc Blimey
Not sure why you see that as so ridiculous. He took them up, after years of mediocre play, with charisma and a really exciting brand of football. Worked for a year in the PL too, and he really formed a bond (much like Ralph has with us) with the supporters. Of course they're disappointed.
Going forward they look good, but have lacked their main goal scorer, Bamford. Defensively they have been shockingly bad, but have lacked their best defensive midfielder. Lack of squad depth will be part of the the reason for their struggles.
So you agree that they have “the strongest connection between a manager and a fanbase you will ever see”?
Which allegedly was Bielsa’s decision as he likes working with a small squad, despite running players into the ground so injury/tiredness would be more likely.
