It was Trump who made the withdrawal deal and who sent Pompeo to sign it with Baradar in Qatar. From that point the ANA and ANP knew the game was up. Shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone that they'd collapse so quickly once their former ally decided to drop them in it.
It would have been a more orderly withdrawal and not the **** fest that happened on Biden’s watch which was all for political point-scoring, timed to coincide with 20th anniversary of 9/11. Biden effectively wiped out all the gains of 20 years. What a **** he is.
Some incorrect stuff there. Trumps deal was timed for 1st May 21. The US actually left on 30 Aug because 1st May was too difficult. Trump reduced the US military presence from c.13000 when the deal was done in 2020, down to 2500 by Jan 21, even though al-Qaeda had joined the Taliban and the Talib were breaking their side of the deal in attacking the ANA and ANP within three months of the deal being made. The deal also excluded the Afghan government and had two classified annexes which weren't released. There were chuff all gains to be lost.
