On an island in the Black Sea, 13 border guards refused to surrender to a Russian warship and were massacred Respect
Yup, I know they are no might for the Russian army, but at least guys like that, will do their damndest to fook up the Russian invaders as much as possible. They don't have to win the battle, they just need to do enough damage that Moscow says to Putin, hmmm this was not such a good idea. We shouldn't forget, the Americans have fought what they thought were easy wars, at least with the Ukranians we know it will be in their soul to defend their country. Like you say Saff, lot's of respect for that.
Link to the story btw... Guardian link didn't work, try this source instead... https://www.timesofisrael.com/russi...aine-troops-killed-guarding-strategic-island/
IF our government is to be believed, Russia has lost 450 troops. The Ukraine has possibly lost the same number of people which includes soldiers and civilians. Claims that Russia has not advanced as quickly as expected and have not taken anything like the key targets they were aiming for yet.
Wallace was presumably using figures provided by Ukraine . All figures at this point are pretty much a guess imo .
I think Putin has a problem, if the Ukranains put up a decent enough fight, which it appears at the moment they are. Because Putin claims he is liberating the Ukraine, so if the Russians start bombing civilian areas beyond the collateral perspective, then technically he's bombing his 'own' people. If Putin don't get the support of good percentage of Ukrainians, then he's got a masive problem. I see the Ukranian leader is already calling Putin to the negotiating table, and the longer Ukranians hold out and send Russian soldiers home to their mums in body bags, then Putin may have to rethink his strategy. Obviously all wishful thinking on my part.
We can but hope it ends fairly quickly as imo the longer it goes on the more chance of it spiralling out of "control" .
That's the danger. If it's prolonged, not only do more civilians get killed in the fighting, but it also means Putin gets more desperate and uses more and more dangerous tactics, like bringing Belarus fully into the war and putting the whole of that region with Poland, Latvia Lithuania at risk. If any NATO countries borders are breached, then it turns this into a whole new ****storm
can't see Belarus actually intervening militarily , but they are already implicated by allowing Russia to use their territory to launch the invasion , but once warfare breaks out there is always the possibility of cock ups causing new problems .
Would have been far easier to have picked some obscure islands in the South Atlantic with a couple of dozen peeps of Russian descent and a few thousand sheep ... at least then he'd have had some legimacy for an expensive war and the necessary loss of lives in his armed forces ...
Have you seen the video of the Ukrainian woman arguing with a Russian soldier? The Russian soldier sounded like he didn’t want to be there at all, just following orders.
No, I haven't seen that. I briefly saw some video where I assume it was Russian tank turned and crushed what looked like a civi car, that was driving on the road towards the tank. The driver was still alive when people were trying to prise the vehicle apart to get them out.
The Russian soldier was basically just saying ‘please don’t escalate/argue, just go in the other direction please’. It was a weird display of politeness from a foreign occupier. I don’t think he knew he was being filmed either. She was giving him dogs abuse, understandably, and he just stood there and took it like someone working in customer service. Almost as if he knew he was in the wrong but couldn’t say it.
