I don't see it. He may be unpredictable (to us) but he has clear goals and how to go about achieving them. I doubt it'd be through Poland.
I doubt Putin will invade Poland. Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia will be worried, though if the invasion of Ukraine goes to plan. Which it might not. Putin could be making a monumental error of his own here. Russian mothers won’t want their sons dying in a bloody and protracted Ukraine war. This could easily all backfire on him. Who ****ing knows, I certainly don’t?
Al Jazeera seem to have reporters actually reporting from the ground, SKY reporters have run for the hills, I need to go check the BBC.
i was just pointing out how easy it is to come up with a pretext . The real ones to worry about are the Baltic states as everything that applies to the Ukraine , including sizeable Russian minority , applies to them .
see my previous post mate, them journo's have run for the hills. Last words from them were, fook this the Russians are coming.
I get that, of course he can use a pretext. I just don't think Poland's in his plans. I agree about the Baltics, those are the ones who should be worried and he's use the pretext you mentioned on them. Let's hope that doesn't happen though.
I feel I should explain what I meant. I don’t think Putin has any ambition to invade Poland once he’s done with Ukraine, even in the long-term. What I mean is, Russian forces accidentally firing across the Ukrainian-Polish border and firing on Polish border forces who they mistakenly believe to be Ukrainian enemy combatants. It may not be likely, but it’s not impossible. During the Cold War in the 60s during the Sino-Soviet split, Soviet and Chinese forces engaged in border skirmishes sporadically.
they have film / pictures but aren't using them presumably as they are worried that they are being fed propaganda where as that never seemed to bother them before.
I don’t think Putin is stupid; he’s a very cunning, calculating politician. He knows the consequences of attacking a NATO member. Ukraine isn’t in NATO, which is why he’s authorised a full-scale invasion to nip Ukraine’s flirting with joining NATO in the bud. He’s been testing the waters to gauge the West’s reaction since 2014 and obviously is confident enough that NATO won’t intervene militarily in Ukraine and feels he can take the sanctions on the chin. My concern about Poland is not Putin attacking Poland because he wouldn’t. My concern is stray bullets from a Russian battalion patrolling the Polish-Ukrainian border hitting some Polish border forces, Polish troops returning fire and a skirmish between a NATO member and Russia escalating.
It does seem to bother them less when they are sitting in a briefing room with some Hollywood trained US Colonel, explaining how allied weapons are designed not to hurt civilians or something.
watched a bit of RT this morning and they had the same "precision weapons" guff coming from some Russian bod . How i chuckled .
How long before China makes a move on Taiwan? If NATO doesn't put men and materials on the ground in Ukraine then I see this happening in the not too distant...
Because the Ukraine are not in NATO, nor does Putin want them being in NATO, hence the invasion, not really sure why people are struggling to understand this concept.
Not struggling at all. Kuwait were never in NATO either but military action was mooted as soon as Saddam invaded in 1990. It's about doing the right thing and stopping dictators in their tracks because we know what happens if we don't. Putin fomented rebellion in South Ossetia and again in Crimea, as pretexts for sending in Russian troops. This time he has gone much further, denying Ukraine's very right to exist. If allowed to get away with it then he'll surely set his sights on Moldova and the Baltic States next. And whilst Ukraine aren't a NATO member yet, you'd think that being in NATO's enhanced opportunity partner interoperability program should warrant some protection from NATO.
You've got more chance of Spurs winning a trophy in the next decade, than any chance of Putin allowing the Ukraine to join NATO. No one is going to get involved, the Ukraine is fooked, all we can do is sit and watch. China have already indicated their intention if anyone else gets involved. So we are all going to sit down and shut up, or we can drag us into a war that will involve nukes. Personally me, I'd just press the button and take out Moscow, but like when I ban people on here, it don't win me many friends. Give me all the buttons and I will sort the problem out for you.
