You are right that we are far from innocent in all of this. We have also happily accepted Russian money, despite knowing how dirty it is, for years. Dirty Russian money has propped up the London property market for years. None of that is right, but it doesn't provide a get out to say that we just abandon fellow Europeans to lose their freedoms because we have ****ed up in the past. Two wrongs don't make a right.
Wars cost money, and so do invasions. Full scaled sanctions would hurt everyone but would hurt Russia most of all.
By that token we should probably have let Hitler have mainland Europe too. Cost us a fortune and cost millions of lives fighting him.

It shouldn't be down to Britain. We are a small country and like you say our military has been degraded under several governments massively. However, it should be a a multinational response with warfare as a last resort. The first step is to sanction Russia and sanction them properly.

We will have to agree to disagree. I don't agree with being cowards just because it would hurt us too, but I can understand why some people want to be. When you stand back and do nothing then the world gets a little bit more ****ed and we become less of what we are.

I am not calling for anyone to be sent to fight. I am calling for full scale sanctions. You may think they will do nothing, but all out sanctions would seriously hurt Russia (as well as ourselves). There is more than one way to fight for something. You can't just stand back and allow bullies to do anything they want without consequences, no matter what the risks are to yourself. To do nothing is cowardly, It is putting self interest above what is right.

Sounds like you are suggesting we should pull out of NATO. Don't think we can just sit back and say we are not interested if NATO decides to take action.
