Plymouth’s form collapse def gives us a sliver of hope still.

but that was 2 points dropped. Poor second half overall. They came at us so it should have been more open but some crucial passes were really bad at times from carrol.

Piggot has to score that. That’s was really bad. It’s what he’s paid the big bucks to do. He looks so under confident.

Def a job opportunity for someone wiling to apply for Ipswich Town No9 next season.

Well if my predicted doom was a 0-0 draw then I suppose that could indicate progress. Sort of.

Frustrating Result, but could have been worse

Great first half which we should’ve scored in ,second half Cheltenham shut the game out with lots of rolling around and time wasting.Still another clean sheet and signs we are being coached to play better football.

Just home from the game. 1st 1/2 was as well as I’ve seen us play apart from the most important part - sticking the ball in the net. 2nd 1/2 was far more disjointed as players became anxious as the clock ticked down. Finally, how did Piggott score 20 goals last season? For me, that should be his last outing for us, I would much rather see Norwood or Simpson in the 18. I would also like to praise the ref today, first 1/2 especially, he let the game flow even when there were 50/50 challenges and 1 player (usually theirs) went to ground, he kept the game going

I remember going to Portman rd in the 70s ready to see us thrash a very poor Luton side , we were flying high and they had lost week in week out,we has already beaten them away 4-1 earlier that season.
We lost 1 nil and were poor. But it was just one game, onwards and upwards.

That’s true but I don’t ever expect our strikers to score and it was never the case for any side prior to the Evans era.

Still keeps the points coming in and still only 4 points to make up, with plenty of games left

We were disappointed after a superb 1st half display. Fortress Cheltenham made our forward play totally inept and we lost the plot & confidence.

Forget the Pig, donkey journeyman who has played his last. Wish Aluko had come on last 20, and perhaps Penney for Thomson on Sat. T was pretty useless 2nd half.

Strikers, No 9s? Where art thou at PR?
I would set up Simpson with Jackson next game, and tell them, this is yr chance boys.

Otherwise, big spenders up front pse. Wherever we end up.

Carroll has played some good stuff but he was really found out in that game.

Surely Piggott has had his last kick, not only can he not finish, he deliberately got in the way of one of our best chances.

Carroll, Bakinson or Idris...neither fill me with confidence.
Let's hope Morsy stays fit and out of trouble

If we are to get out of this division we need a steady goalscorer who will get 20 a season and although this will be expensive its already costing us in wages etc for players cant do it for us let alone the extra income being in the Championship would bring in.
We dont need a striker who has a couple of reasonable games in 3 seasons and is suddenly rated as fantastic, we also dont need a player who scores goals at the start of the season and then is anonymous for months, and we also dont need so called strikers who just dont score goals, maybe its time young Simpson was given a start because lets face it he hasnt got much to beat.

As I said at 9.30 today, I agree FM, time to give Simpson & Jackson a go with Aluko/ Celina behind them, as every other combo has not fired or inspired for weeks.

Pretty passing, great flowing movement, 70% possession, strong defense, admirable control of games are all fine, but Goals win matches!

No striker will score 20 goals a season in this side because they won't play enough games.

We'll see what McKenna does in the summer but I think we've got enough talent in the building to score goals.

One could say that they are not playing enough games because they are not scoring goals, or contributing much!

And is that how we solve that issue by rotation? Norwoods record is a goal every other game for this club, Bonne is just over that so a goal every 2 and a bit games (obviously not based on recent times) that says to me if you play them both for the majority of games this season they're likely to get 20 goals a season. Add to that Pigott scored 20 goals last season for AFC Wimbledon.

What that tells me is we have at least 3 strikers who we know can score goals at this level but for whatever reason we're not getting the best out of them at the moment. IMO we don't lack good options for this level upfront but we're clearly not playing to their strengths which given what McKenna says I find strange.

Quite right, pretty free flowing football is great to watch but without goals is meaningless, possession stats mean nothing and are not what the games about, the only stat that matters is which team outscored the opposition.
