I thought both he and Fleming got in each others way, case of after you, no after you old boy. It might have bounced off the back of Greaves's head in the end. edit: it came off Fleming, not Greaves.
No leader at the back, Slater loses the ball and then McLoughlin spoons a clearance. 2nd goal 2 players going for the same header. Like watching children play FFS.
I agree, especially with him saying he's seen every game this season. He must know who he needs rid, so I guess he's just running down contracts. He's gone for survival first and a summer clearout. Spending big money on a striker will do no good at all unless he sorts out some creative players to feed one.
My two penneth for what it’s worth. An embarrassment for the 16500 crowd. A painful evening on two counts; firstly, the typical City performance we’ve all seen before, playing bottom of league thinking we’ve only got to turn up to win. Only we didn’t really turn up. Barnsley wanted it more, they were in our faces, bullying, pressuring us, first to every first & second balls, we couldn’t handle it, resulting to hoof ball tactics. Both goals were self inflicted disasters of our own making. I really felt sympathy for Cartwright on his debut, the lads in front of him did nothing to protect him. If I’d have been Shota, I would have made a statement, making 2 or 3 subs at half time. The game was crying out for Thudd, the only player really capable & confident on the ball in midfield and able to accurately pick a pass. Although, probably better to start him for 60 mins and try to get ahead in the game, rather than bringing him on when chasing the game. Secondly, where was the nets at South Stand for pre game shooting practice?? A ball got booted into the empty seats in front of me, slammed into my knee, I managed to hobble to the car later, but have a very painful, swollen, bruised knee. So, not a great night.
how many times this season have we seen 3 or 4 City defenders static & an opposition striker nipping in to score ????? Should have been rectified in the Jan window, but we signed 2 strikers & a midfielder (we didn't even need). Great work by Lee Darnborough
Well considered and accurate as usual Tigress, and you can tell you only posted it a few minutes ago as there are yet to be seen offers to come and rub your sore knee
Yeah, Walsh, Forss were definitely not first choice signings. We'd love to see players wanting to join us, but until ambitious signings are made these top players aren't going to buy into the "New Era"
Some of the blame lies with manager, but the players were shocking and need to take accountability! I have jokingly said I am still looking over our shoulder...but could Derby catch us here? Reading are not far behind.
Reading have a good championship team, they’ll finish above us. Swift Joao Drinkwater all players that walk into most other championship sides.
A young side with an experienced back bone allowing the young lads to play with freedom. KLP is one of our more experienced championship players. Probably only Smallwood, Honeyman and Hudds with more appearances at this level? They weren’t allowed to sign players until right at the end and they still recruited better then us...
Stat - We’ve only had more possession then the opposition in 1 of our wins this season. Preston opening day, 52-48. Shows how we are miles better off the ball. 352 has to come back purely for defensive purposes. Then at least the long ball will be to 2 players rather then 1.
I said to my mate last night that his English is not great which is a big worry for me when we are in situations such as being 0-2 at Half Time. It is difficult enough for a Manager with fluent tongue to be getting through the amount of points needed to be made on that first half showing, never mind someone who doesn't seem to understand the language very well. At the time I was worried getting rid of Grant was a silly decision. I'm now thinking that it could be seriously damaging. He was stubborn but the players appeared to know their jobs and were prepared to go into battle for him. I am not seeing that now.
The fact that a few of us believe we’ll finish below Derby & maybe even Reading is very worrying. If the points deducted from both of them hadn’t happened, then we’d be in the bottom 3 already! That shows how far away from being a decent side we really are!
Smallwood has a decent amount of appearances in the Championship but the trend at every club he’s been at, whether Middlesbrough, Rotherham, Blackburn, has been him being dropped and eventually surplus to requirements. He was an astute signing last season and would do a good job for any League 1 team but that’s about his limit.
Well if its any conciliation I think, after losing to Barnsley, we'll finish below both Derby and Reading. Hopefully, Birmingham might just save our necks, but don't bank on it. Barnsley,14 behind City, have two games in hand, might go close to catching us.
