Clubs have to live within their means at this level. As a club we have huge running costs because of the stadium and the academy. If you can get around that you can spend whatever the the club generates after those costs.

Our income is probably 15million a year, how much do you think we spend above that just on running costs and wages?

It’s sometimes the games everyone think we’ll lose that we win, and that is often a turning point. Just thought I’d bring a little optimism into this ****storm. I don’t hold out much hope it’ll happen this way, really.

Its all boring these debates now mate and how much some fans try and find excuses to why we are where we are compared to the calibre of teams we compete with in this league.

Its not rocket science how a club like us can get out of it compared to the our rivals comparing what we have vs what they have ffs.

    No he didn't.

    He got it disastrously wrong!

He screwed up what little balance the squad had and robbed our defence of any depth. That is far more than simply getting it wrong.

I don't think Speakman, KLD or Lee Johnson had a clue about what it takes to get promoted out of this division. After seeing our injuries last season, with Covid still around and players not vacinating, they should have maxed out the squad this year and brought in some solid journeyman footballers to stiffen the midfield and defence.

For me last night was down to desire and a willingness to fight from the off. Defoe, Pritchard and Evans were passengers for large parts of the game.

You can't just go with 2 upfront and hope Defoe is going to stick one away. He should of been replaced at half time.

Pritchard is the same week in, week out. He offers nothing for large parts of the game in the hope he does something out of the ordinary. He often becomes alive once we are getting beat and the opposition sits deep. He has no strength or pace... I just can't decide if he's better off playing deeper to start things off, or goes to the bench for actual attacking winger to get some game time.

Evans is shot and needed replacing in January.

So carrying 2 or 3 players for the majority of games is killing us. Opposition teams are coming to the SOL for their cup final and grafting their arses off. We need the same from our lot, and it's just not happening.

I feel sorry for Cirkin having to cover the whole entire left flank on his tod. Gooch again playing 3 different roles in one game. You can't fault his effort and willingness to keep offering himself for the ball.

The one shining light was Clark coming on and showing some of the senior pros how to take a game to the opposition.

Another major squad overhaul is needed no matter what league we are in this summer.

The fact that Neil is setting the team up like this is a joke. No Clarke and starting Evans is pathetic. I have to say his first 3 games is parky style ball and it's not good.

As I was watching last night I did think this is Parkinson style. I will give Neil time to decide how we wants to go but he has been erratic in the last couple of games. I am a suppprter who wants to watch good football, last night wasnt that. We played percentage stuff, hitting the channels or to Stewart head and then hoped we can get second balls in the final third. That football wont be successful in L1 anymore. Too many good footballing sides now for that. If we cant keep the ball, control the game through possession and play one and two touch in their half we will never get anywhere. IMO.

I have just read through the last couple of pages...

Lots of frustration and anger... understandable really...

Personally... I am not likely to return to SoL this season. I might spend a tenner on a stream, might not?

Whether I renew SC, that is in the balance

We were briefly up this season but are now it seems are in the worst slump and position in our history..

Yep. I didn't expect Neil to come with this ancient style to be honest. Expected better. Much better. I think we will get smashed by Wigan midweek. Worrying.

After reading posts regarding the match last night and with everybody not happy with the way things are at the moment, I feel we all need a bit of reflection. Its being reported on social media that the person who needed medical attention at the match last night has passed away. No one should go to a football match and not return home to their loved ones. My thoughts go out to that person's family and friends. RIP to a fellow Sunderland fan.

Am reading on twitter that the poor supporter who collapsed has passed away. Has this been confirmed anywhere? What awful news if true

    Bloody awful that.

Obviously something very wrong there. One thing worth saying IMO, is that when a manager is sacked there are often stories about how much the players are glad . This is then followed by the same players showing a surge in energy, performance and results. We have see nothing like that , so whatever Johnson's flaws might have been, ( I can't say I ever saw the team not try under him) it hasn't been dislike of him that caused this grotesque slide.

But it's there. We are , over a dozen or so games now one of the worst sides in the league. The place reeks with a negative, oppressed flavour.

I don't think it's this manager or the last one. It doesn't leave many candidates.

And by the way, any team containing a ghost of a footballer like Evans deserves to lose any game they play.

If you look at our results as displayed here https://uk.soccerway.com/teams/england/sunderland-association-football-club/683/matches/
you can see that we started the season well (as we all know) winning the majority of games. So-called 'streaky' Johnson then had his only losing streak of the season when we lost to Rotherham, Wednesday, Mansfield, and Bradford City. As two of these were cup games, this shouldn't have too much impact on our promotion campaign (although the effect on form that the latter two losses had shouldn't be underestimated). After that, form didn't revert to what it was before that losing run but it wasn't catastrophic- we lost 3 in 15 between Ipswich (the game after Bradford) and Portsmouth (the game before Bolton). We were still picking up points and still in a good position to push on. Given what's happened since Bolton, sacking Johnson now looks like a big mistake and that, coupled with a poor January transfer window, has led to this situation. The balls up seems to have happened in January, whatever it was, but with the pursuit of Defoe and Keane and, on the evidence so far, it seems that there are conflicting ideas amongst those within the club's hierarchy. If that's the case, the 'model' cannot and will not work.

Hope it's not true. But I will be surpsied if the fella makes it. Only did CPR once myself and it brought that back. Immediately knew how serious it was. Manual CPR, defib, mechanical CPR on the move. Awful. I wanted to go after seeing it to be honest but my brother wanted to stay.
