What's the actual deal with Donald's loan agreement? Is this actually why he couldn't be fully bought out so easily? Or is it just paper talk? If true, then they really are stuffed - long term.

I have no idea mate. As much as I find the whole thing funny as **** at them having to dine on Karma, the whole deal stinks from top to bottom when you look at it and has been a massive gamble on a quick flip.

Its blatantly obvious that although Donald has run a decent business and done alright for himself in life, he never had anywhere need the required financial power to run a football club of that size. He's bought it, using the parachute payments with the hope of quick promotion back to championship and then the prem and a quick sale to make a big profit.

What's even more crazy is KLD buying into it, I reckon he's been talked into it something his heart isn't fully in. It looks like an investment rather than a buy out. His advisors have obviously said not to purchase the whole thing as its too big a gamble as things stand.

What I find crazy is the fact they haven't shut down the academy etc for a few years till the finances improve as that's going to be burning through money like nobody's business. Ordinarily clubs in League 1 would use the loan system to aid their own objectives for a season, getting high potential young players on the cheap and getting them experience. Sunderland running an academy in League 1 is a financial drain I would have thought.

 

Yeah it's a bit of a lottery. I remember at the time thinking" Why Chelsea?" and then "Why Man City?". Neither were competing at the point of takeover. But look where they are now. It might take some time, but I'm hoping we might actually win something in my lifetime.

If I'm being honest, I'd actually prefer the NE area to be thriving, but for now I'm just basking in our fortune vs Sunderland's misfortune.

 

I've said before I miss the derbies. I'm happy for them to spend a decade in League 1 and hopefully meet them in the cups a few times but then I think sympathy may well kick in, and we can't have that

 

I'm torn. The growing rift in fortunes is highly amusing and very satisfying - for now. However, you can't beat a proper local rivalry and all that the Derby matches bring. It wouldn't be the same with no local rivalry over the longer term. So in a strange way I have to wish 'them' some good fortune in the future - but only after we've won the Prem, FA Cup & Champions League multiple times.

So do you see hope for the future? Or only if KLD can somehow buy out both Methven and Murray? Does Murray's loan cause a problem?

I wasn't taking the piss out of KLD, simply stating a young Marseille fan part buying Sunderland with no apparent affinity to the club or English football for that matter suggests to me he was approached and "sold a vision".
I reckon a deal is possibly in place that he has an agreed price to purchase the club once/if you are promoted to the PL. Donald and Methven are digging deeper and deeper into personal debt by trying to sustain something they simply can't afford in my view. I can't see them going through all that stress to bail out without their profit.

 

That's the thing, you HAVE to laugh at each other - that's part of the deal. Just so long as you come out on top (by any means).
