Eric, I'd be interested to read your reaction to this interview.
I know it's over 20 mins but it's worth it, in my opinion

Excellently explained by an extremely intelligent person who has studied CO2 for over 35 years.
Not the usual rantings from swedish goblins and the like.

He was a very smart guy and makes some very valid points. He did recognise that climate change was happening and CO2 levels increasing but didn't believe it would all be bad and in some instance he thought it could be a positive effect. He recognised that he wasn't an expert in this field but was concerned that some of the discussion was being lead by climate change zealots who really had a vested interest in promoting only the negative effects of climate change. I'm not sure if genetically modified super trees that he suggested are necessarily the answer.

I would prefer to take action that we can and err on the side of caution. Will I feel foolish if we reduce CO2 levels and it improves nothing, probably, but I would prefer this to doing nothing and having an "Oh ****" moment.

Mother earth will be able to survive in spite of us I'm sure, perhaps be thankful when we've moved onto "space the final frontier" <laugh>

Read something a while ago about the benefits of electric vehicles and comparing them with petrol/diesel engines. It was a long piece so I will just give a shortened version. It seems that when you take into consideration that both forms of transport require engineering that produces CO2 the following facts emerge (and please don't hold me to the exact figures). The amount of CO2 produced in building an electric vehicle vis a petrol/diesel is far greater. Once on the road the petrol vehicle, of course, continues to produce CO2 via it's emissions but it is estimated that one would have to drive some 90 odd thousand miles before the CO2 footprint of the electric vehicle puts it 'in the black', so to speak. During this time it is possible that the electric vehicle will require new batteries, causing the CO2 footprint to take a step back. Now many e-vehicle producers claim that their product will last much longer, maybe true, and not require battery changes for many, many miles. Point of the article was that currently we do not know exactly how long e-vehicles' batteries last, exactly how much they cost to run in terms of CO2 emissions over long periods (remembering that the electricity has to be produced somewhere) and in the overall picture, do they actually save anything. I'm no engineer, so I stand to be corrected by anyone that knows the answers to these things. Anybody?
