He got away with it when he invaded Crimea and that set the precedent. He knows he will get away with it again. Once this is done it would be madness to think there won't be a next time he (or the next one down the line) won't try something else knowing they will get away with it. You are right, anyone thinking this doesn't affect us will get a shock next time they fill up their car or open next year's electricity bill. The government will talk of sanctions, but those sanctions won't hurt the fat cats. They will hurt the general population. They could impose sanctions that would really have an impact if they wanted to, but they won't.

I think a happy medium can be reached, realistically Ukraine could slice up a small part of the country and let all the ruski lovers mover there - lets say a small place called Chernobyl. Everyone saves face (other than the ruski's living there coz obviously their's will melt off) Putin gets a foot in Ukraine territory and Ukraine are seen as humanitarian and peace keepers and the Ukraine PM comes 2nd in the vote after me for the Nobel Peace Prize
