Lukaku was busy in the game against Palace. 7 touches of the ball in 90 minutes. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/60468407
Listening to 5 live and they are currently discussing this Apparently Tuchel claims it has nothing to do with the system. This is clearly wrong I just don’t see how Chelsea can sign off on a manager who can’t get the best of a player who they spent 97.5m on and who is on something like 325-350k a week. Because it isn’t apparent that any other club can give them their money back and take on those wages
Liverpool getting a pen for a ball booted at Leeds in the box. Obviously no intent to handle. Hardly seen them given recently but… Liverpool right.
honestly, I would Romeu looked worse, the Leeds player was turning away and the arm wasn’t outstretched, just raised at the elbow. Anyway, harsh and ruined the game for me.
i fear they have shafted themselves this season. Gutted by injury and failed big time with recruitment. Shame, I’ve enjoyed having them back in the EPL but fear it might be championship next season.
I found the statistic about Lukaku only having 7 touches in Sunday's match to be astounding. It was not something that I was aware of until i read the article on line but it made me reflect on how the statistics in our Everton match skewed the perception of the first half which was even. I think that statistics can confuse the perception ot a match and remember reading a book about how counting the number of completed passes or interceptions is meaningless unless they are associated with an area of the park where theaction has some meaning. An attacking midfielder making 50 passes is still rubbish if these are made within his own half. the number in itself does not really reveal anything about his effectiveness. Mulling this over, I am still shocked that Lukaku should have contributed so little in a game, The number off touches does not reflect on how effectiveness he was at drawing the defenders away from his attacking partner yet the number seems shockingly low. It implies he did not really have any interest in the game or certainly implies he did nothing to press and take the ball of his opponents. Basically , he was getting a touch every 13 minutes. I did not watch the match so cannot really comment with authority but I would be intrigued to learn what the average is in the PL for every position. Alex Gunn got more touches picking the ball out of the net when we played Leicester!
