Good Morning. It's Monday 21st February, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds lose six goal thriller Leeds were condemned to their 11th League defeat of the season, losing to their arch Nemesis Manchester Utd as the Heavens opened over West Yorkshire yesterday afternoon. The boggy conditions were more reminiscent of trench warfare, and so were some of the challenges. A total of nine players (six from Leeds) were booked as Paul Tierney struggled to keep in control of the game. Scott McTominay was fortunate to stay on the field. He flattened Robin Koch in the first half, which led to the German being unable to continue The Scottish International continued to ride his luck after the break. After a non-eventful half hour, Manchester Utd took the lead. Shaw's in-swinging corner was headed in by Harry Maguire. If that wasn't bad enough, it was their first goal from a corner all season. They doubled their lead late into first half injury time. Lindelof's surged through the Leeds midfield before passing the ball to Sancho. His teasing delivery into the box saw both Fernandez and Ronaldo lining up to deliver the fateful blow, as the Elland Road crowd were temporarily silenced as both teams entered the dressing room at half-time. Llorente and Harrison made way for Raphinha and Gelhardt after the break as Leeds pressed forward. Their hard work was soon rewarded (53 mins) when Rodrigo's cross from deep on the left wing found its way into the back of the net. Smelling blood, Leeds broke forward from the restart, and equilised less than a minute later. Dan James' low cross was turned in by Raphinha, to the delight of 35,000 delirious Leeds fans. As on so many occasions this season, jubilation soon turned to anguish when second half Fred beat Meslier at his near post, to put the visitors back ahead with only twenty minutes of the game left. Leeds misery was complete two minutes from time when Anthony Elanga added a fourth for the visitors. please log in to view this image Time for Bielsa to show his worth When Anthony Elanga finally put Leeds out of their misery late on, the sudden realisation that Leeds had shipped 50 goals left many bewildered. Not only is it the second worst in the top flight, it's 21 more than Burnley! Ten of these have come in the last three games. Whilst the Red Devils can be considered a bogey team, conceding three to Everton and Villa is difficult to stomach. Bielsa has almost a full contingent to pick from in recent times, with only Firpo and Cooper unavailable for selection. Simon Grayson stoked the fire yesterday, by revealing live on radio, that Victor Orta told him there was money to spend last month, but Bielsa refused. The Argentine earns Millions each year, and is regarded by many as being one of the best coaches in the World, yet the gaps and glaring errors are obvious to see, and he doesn't seem to be learning by his mistakes. He has 14 games to turn things around, starting with a trip to Anfield midweek. It's time for him to show his worth. please log in to view this image 14 games left, 12 points needed An eleven point gap opened up between the Whites, and (then) bottom place Burnley following their 3-2 win at the London Stadium midway through January, but four games on, a succession of poor display from Bielsa's men have narrowed that gap to just six points, and with 14 games left, and 23 points registered, they need another 11 (or 12 points because of goal difference) to survive the drop! Where will Leeds 12 points come from? I am struggling to see where we will get 12 points from over the next 14 games to be honest. I reckon we will be lucky to scrape 10 at best,
Morning all TBH yesterday wasn't as bad as i was expecting, we actually scored goals but **** me it was bad. Is it time for Bielsa to show his worth? He's done that and now it's time to go. I've been a Leeds fan for 26 years and for me this is the worst season I've experienced. WE knew we were gonna get relegated under Eddie Grey and when we got relegated from the Championship Wise and Poyet tried to improve things by changing it up. Bielsa seems to be stuck in the mud. I thing I've mentioned this like a hundred time Bielsa lasts 2 seasons at a club then they get rid. There has to be a reason why? I think we're seeing it now. He's one of the best coaches in the world... I'm failing to see that right now. He's riding the waves of his reputation and soon he's gonna sink. I did a thread on the points situation last week after the Everton game. TBH I'm expecting only 11 points. I've got it worked out that we need 17 points for survival.
Morning all, not a great start to the week but did we expect to get anything deep down !!!!!! to be totally honest with ourselves yesterdays score could have been 2-6. I think its the time of the football season to get critical, put over your points of view....right or wrong, and put into perspective. Bielsa..... a complete breath of fresh air when he arrived and introduced his way of playing, showed English football that Championship players can be made into better players, even into international players, BUT there is a saying "when a race is run" i think that Amigo's race has been run along with some of the players, there has been too many mistakes made, especially this season in the shape of:- Squad too light, needed cover for injuries, cover we don't have. After heavy defeats i am tired of his interviews and stating i picked the wrong team, not acceptable, in fact many clubs would have dismissed him over that. Persevering with players who cannot step up, Tyler Roberts is a prime example. Another prime example is when Koch went off, Firpo wasn't even ready to come on, the substitution was a simple fix, Firpo to LB, Dallas to slot into Koch's position, but no, Bielsa moved them all over the place, Dallas went to RB, Ailing to CB, Struijk to LB total fkg carnage, Man U went and scored shortly after so yes i blame Bielsa for all that, then they score a second, it took an half time reshuffle to sort it, Gelhardt and Raphinha come on and caused problems and disjointed them somewhat. We got level, then thats the time to steady the ship!!!!! but no we have to try and stretch them again, Firpo struggling so Mr Bielsa why not take him off and put Cresswell on, why bring Firpo on in the first place, sorry but he seems to be poor at making decisions when the heat is on during a match. Bielsa is a bit of a lightweight in looking after his players, McTominay knew what he was doing when he crocked Koch, any complaints.... none, he went on with three further yellow card challenges!!! any animosity, complaints to rat face Mike Dean....none, in fact whilst Koch was being bandaged up i saw Dean having a laugh with someone ffs, could you imagine if that happened to Klopp, or even Fergie, there would of been riots, sorry he needs to man up, in fact the whole backroom staff needs to, Radz need to send letters of complaints to the FA stating facts, and god knows there are plenty happened this season, but again sweet FA will be done. Meslier...... makes far too many mistakes, his positioning is woeful, distribution not great, does not command his 6yd box, he was to blame for at least 2 goals yesterday. Yes he is young but if the goalkeeping coach cannot sort this either get rid of the coach or look for some competition for him. Ayling.......wears his heart on his sleeve, but his race is run, lost 1-2 yards pace and is struggling. Firpo....... Just not good enough for PL football, cannot recover when he looses the ball and that happens too often. Llorente.... Just cannot put my finger on this one, an established Spanish international that is struggling, is it the coaching at TA? strange one. Dallas..... Always puts a shift in but i think his race also has been run, maybe a league too high for him now. Harrison..... Cant beat a player and cannot cross a football, so what's the use of him on the wing, what's the use of him playing? To be honest i am loosing faith with all what's happening at LS11, the fans deserve better, especially the away fans who spend hard earned cash every other week. Oh just a quick one, i hope the idiot who threw the object which struck the Man U player is proud of himself, you have played into the hands of the FA either you should hand yourself in or people around him should and plead your insanity and keep away from the stadium.
Meslier is still developing and will go on to be an excellent keeper but agree with you on not commanding his area. Beaten on his near post and I couldn’t get my head around how close Fernandes was to goal for his header. Maybe I’m being harsh and I’m certainly no goalkeeping expert but thought he could have come out to grab the looped cross.
Liverpool (A) 3-0 Spurs (H) 1-1 Leicester City (A) 0-2 Villa (H) 0-0 Norwich (H) 2-0 Wolves (A) -1-1 Southampton (H) 1-1 Watford (A) 2-2 Chelsea (H) 0-2 Man City (H) 0-3 Arsenal (A) 1-3 Brighton (H) 1-1 Brentford (A) 1-1 10 points
Yes Meslier is young but when you look at Paul Robinson when he was 17 he battling some of the best players in Europe and still held his own. Meslier is being linked to the likes of PSG... why? He's let 50 goals in 24 games. Ayling, Cooper, Dallas, Rodrigo and Klich are all in their 30s. How many years of top flight football have they got in them. I've named five players there but 4 of them have never really set the football world a light. If this was RVP or Henry or Aguero it would be a different story but we really don't have world class players in our squad. Firpo has Barca's 3rd choice left back. I've seen comments on Twitter where Spanish football fans were laughing at us for buying him. Either Orta is naïve or Firpo has hidden depths that haven't come out. Agree with you with Llorente but to be honest I don't get why we signed a player who is always injured. He's spent more time on the recovery table than the pitch with us. There's a reason Harrison didn't get in to the city team and Foden did. Harriosn has now been rejected by by both Man City and Man Utd. This squad is aging with an aging manager who should go in to retirement at the end of the season. It's obvious to see but some fans still think Bielsa is god.
Afternoon all, I’m all typed out from yesterday and everything has been covered and mentioned by the rest of you
I go into games now thinking we are going to concede it's like the old Keegan team at Newcastle we seem to be going out thinking we have to score more than them but we can't be ause we don't have the players to do so. Yesterday when we went 2-2 we should of taken a breather do the basics. 2-2 end of the day is a good point. Teams know how to beat us now but we don't change or won't our fullbacks are getting tortured and it's to easy to get through the middle. Liverpool are going to murder us even in first gear. Our team when pushed ie injuries has passed its sell by date and we have done nothing to improve our weaknesses. I have hope we have too but when your needing 3 or 4 goals ton win a game it's fukcing difficult especially in the best league in Europe.
basically we are not good enough in certain areas......and those areas are slowly spreading meslier has no competition for his spot ayling is as his name implies! firpo is a lazy twat who may as well walked off after that pathetic trot back for the third goal harrison should have put us 1 up and should be ashamed at his attempt no striker for most of season is laughable man for man marking does not work against classier players, but we continue with it blindly, a bit of a kamikaze tactic for me another hiding coming up against scouse unless some divine intervention takes place....and the only consolation for the scum result is if we carry on as we are for the next 14 games we won't be playing them again unfortunately
