Really struggling to decide between Romeu and KWP. Romeu cost only 5m(!!) and has played so many games for us. KWP is more than one player. He's a right-back, left-back, and let's face it he provides more of an attacking threat that any of our creative players (bar Stuie maybe). As I'm writing this and thinking about it, I'm leaning towards KWP based on the fact that he has never had a bad game for us. Consistently good. Consistently just a joy to watch. Romeu, incredible though he has been this season, has shown inconsistency and the odd bad game in the past. F*ck it, I'm going for Kyle. Kyle's a 10. Romeu's a 9.9. That's how close it is.
The best thing about this poll is that it is genuinely a very difficult choice. I can't remember the last time a Saints squad had such a variety of players in all positions vying for the Best Buy accolade. I've gone for Stuey but I could just as easily have picked Kyle, or Oriol, or Tino, or Sali, or Che, or dear old Shane. And where's the Gorilla?
Yeah trust me he’s not far behind the two I mentioned. He’s on par with anyone in terms of what he brings to the team. Would have him just behind Romeu in third, purely because Romeu has played twice the number of games.
It's not just a coincidence then, that the goal output has increased and a surge up the table is due to Stuart Armstrong being restored to the starting 11!!
This was a tough one. For the sake of the size of the fee, the consistency, the loyalty and commitment, the availability for matches and the heart and professionalism he demonstrates, I went for Oriol. It all depends on your own criteria though. For example, could make a good case that taking Salisu for £10m as a 20/21 year old Ghanaian defender from Real Valladolid, after just one full season and seeing the player he is now, means that it’s him. Equally, KWP rejuvenates our RB/LB positions at a time when they were stale and increasingly unproductive. Tino for just £5m… there’s plenty of cases to be made! Good question.
So if you think it’s someone like Salisu/Tino because of the potential resale value does that make Van Dijk our best signing ever?
Can I say "stating the bleeding obvious". Was not a huge fan when he first joined, but just love him so much now
There is an argument for him, but in terms of achievement and performances it would probably be someone like Shilts, Rickie, Spike Armstrong, Ron Davies...
If you’re talking about the best purchase then yes. If you’re talking about best signing then it’s just on merit, performance, loyalty etc
So many choices. Romeu is a beast (and Che these days for that matter) but for me KWP is our best player. Needs to be on the pitch. He was great last season and is even better now. I'd hate to be Ralph, cause Perraud is playing very well, Tino is great, but KWP is better.
Hell no. Makes him the most profitable sale and nothing more. That january transfer after the summer of love in Blackppol will forever stink him up for me. That 'apology' ending all interest should get dragged out as often as the best 11 lists of players we sold.
I echo the sentiments of most people when I say it’s bloody hard to choose based on current form. For me, it was a toss up between KWP who I think is a magnificent player with an outstanding attitude and Romeu.. who is an outstanding player with a magnificent attitude. I went for Romeu too, mostly decided on length of service. The price we have paid and the value he has given the club is absolutely unbelievable. He has had bad patches, but mostly these were under poor managers who didn’t recognise what he brings to the team. Our best managers have all rated him and worked hard to get the best out of him. And when he is at his best, Saints are at their best.
You’ll be looking for the miserable of bastard thread I’m going to add this emoji in the hope that it adds fire to your ire
I haven't voted because I simply can't make my mind up. There's simply too many strong cases there for me to choose one ahead of the others. Oriol, KWP, Armstrong have all been fantastic signings and Salisu and Tino are shaping up to be as well.
Stu just gets it for me as he gives us what we were lacking, attacking threat ... and keeps getting better But couldn’t argue with Oriel as he allows the attack to do its thing by offering protection ... and has been here for so long KWP keeps improving too and will be competing for the title soon Shane is a legend but at £12mill maybe not quite at the same level Most of the others need longer (SRL £1mill wasn’t bad)
