Up unitl now Russia has done nothing other than to move troops around its own sovereign territory - which it has a right to do within international law. They have also been having joint exercises with Belarus - this is, apparently, seen as a sign of aggression by Nato even though Nato are always having joint exercises of their own in Eastern Europe. But apparently when Russia responds to the military posturing of Nato then they are the aggressor The only people blowing up the possibility of war are in the West - are you quite sure it is not Nato which is looking for an excuse for hostilities ?
It’s kind of like me waving my arms in your face but claiming I’m not doing anything as I’m not hitting you.
Not liking the look of this Ukraine stuff. Wouldn’t be so scary but Putin sits on the second biggest nuclear Arsenal* in the world, and if he’s boxed into a corner….who knows. Plus they are probably the ‘best’ , or certainly the most experienced, at cyber attacks. I suppose the west is afraid that a cyber attack on Russia could result in our own systems being decimated. Military consensus seems to be that he can attack and take Kyiv and probably the whole country but it will cost the Russian army an incredible amount of blood to hold it. This all seems so old fashioned, 20th century. **** me, grow up you tossers. A world driven by testosterone junkies worried about ‘respect’ and ‘losing face’. Pathetic. * interesting that Apple automatically capitalises Arsenal. That’s what they have been paying for, rather than decent new players.
Given Russia has already invaded Georgia and Crimea, I think it reasonable that NATO fears the worst. Let's not be naive about this.
The only thing that reassures me a little about the nuclear war threat is that I don't believe Putin is mad. He's a lot of other things, but he knows if he presses the button it's also byebye Russia. I just don't think he'd do it. North Korea, Iran etc....not so sure.
I still believe that Putin won’t attack. It would be costly for him. He is hoping the west flinch first.
I wouldn't be surprised if he did attack tbh. He won't want to lose face and he and the west won't go nuclear (accidental alerts aside).
I don’t think he is mad, more calculating. He must realise what will happen? He seems quite close to China at the moment and it wouldn’t surprise me if there is some organised, coordinated attack on Taiwan at some point. it’s all a bit dodgy at the moment but hopefully cool heads will prevail.
Everyone seems to fear Russia but it's China who really are the danger, they and Russia have agreed to support each other against everything 'Western' and whilst Putin plays his Little Big Man games China has spent the last 20 years strategically turning itself into a formidable superpower both financially and militarily. They know Europe and the USA are stretched to match them and that allied to their fanaticism is a chilling prospect if they don't get their way...
Aah, Spiked. What Living Marxism morphed into when it’s representatives realised that the difference between right wing libertarianism and left wing intolerance was negligible. Enjoy.
China are dangerous for sure, but again I don't think their present regime would press the nuclear button.
It doesn't matter much where it comes from Stan, the same material can be found from many other sources. The fact is that there will not be a war unless NATO actually starts one. The Russians can keep their army on the Russian side of the border and can keep on with military exercises with Belarus and in both respects they are abiding by international law and there is nothing NATO can do to stop them in either respect, if they continue with both - other than if NATO actually starts a conflict. Russia has no interest either in invading Ukraine, or going to the expense of trying to keep it occupied. It's only interest is stopping the expansion of NATO and thus preventing hostile forces being too close to Moscow. Russia's motives here are purely defensive. We can go back to the old cold war days here of having massive armies on 2 sides of a border, constantly eying each other up as in the old border in Germany but do we really want that when there are other ways. Russia wants dialogue with the west as an equal partner, and the long term security of Europe requires such a partnership and maybe also a loosening of ties to the USA.
Of course it matters where it comes from. You are making a fool of yourself, unless you are being paid for posting this apologist bollocks, which reads like you have cut and pasted it from a Russian propaganda site. Like Spiked.
