I think Vidic is the best defender in the world. It is no coincidence that Man Utd started winning trophies again once Vidic arrived, he is an outstanding player. He is great in the Air, he is a great tackler, and he is the bravest player in the league. He may not be blessed with loads of pace, but what centre half is?

All defenders cheat, thats just the way it is. If a players through on goal, there is not a top class defender in the world that wouldn't pull the striker down. I know its cheating but they all do it.

To me the most overrated players are, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, David Luiz, Rafael, Anderson, Theo Walcott, Malouda, Downing, Mikel, Torres, Crouch. If I had to pick just one of those though, it would be Jamie Carragher, I've never rated the guy, and I'm amazed Liverpool have held onto him for so long. I think there is a good reason no England manager has ever regarded him as first choice. That's why Liverpool have never won the Premier League, because they have had average players like Carragher, despite having had some world class ones like Alonso, Gerrard and Reina

nearly all the England team esp. barry and joey barton (especially by us)

Edit: and nolan especially by the press when used in the context "Newcastle have lost their best players in nolan, barton etc." this statement always ****s me off as colo was head and shoulders above him during the CCC and our first season back

  5. Vidic is not the best defender in the world. He's not a patch on Pique, T.Silva, W.Samuel and plenty more.

He's a great player, but he cheats and gets away with it far too much, and saying "all defenders cheat" is just ****ing stupid. I'm not denying that every defender has probably tried it in their career, but Vidic pretty much takes the whole cake when it comes to cheating and bad tackling. He gets away with it far too much, and that's why he keeps on doing it. He does it a lot more than most defenders. Vidic even makes Terry look like an honest player ffs.

Vidic is a class player but over rated.

Most defenders will not pull down a player running in on goal, because most of the time, losing a goal isn't as big as losing a player to suspension, but Vidic doesn't have to worry about that, because he gets away with it nearly all the time, which will lead him to carry on doing it.

Scott Carson and Chris Kirkland, both awful, don't know how they've both been capped by England and Carson is still getting in the squads.

Vidic. Kompany is far far superior.
    Rio Ferdinand = finished.
Gerrard = really not world class.
Rooney = good goalscorer but not the 'white pele' he's hyped to be.

during the periods he played from the late 50's to the 70's there was Eusébio,Ferenc Puskás,Johan Cruyff,George Best to name four i think were better players.

edit: And that's not including players from his own team - Rivelino,Jairzinho etc.

Jesus this was never gonna be a good one! Wow I did not realise how far apart my opinion is on footballers with others on here. I must be watching different players!

I wholeheartedly disagree about Vidic. Absolute top class. As for some of the others mentioned, again I wholeheartedly disagree. Lampard is not overrated in the slightest. In the correct system he is absolute dynamite. The fact he tends to get 20 goals a season makes a mockery of the abuse he takes. Rio Ferdinand? Really? Still absolutely top class and I wouldn't let one game against city cloud any judgement there. Top class although he is on the slide because of injuries. Bale. Top class and worth every column inch. Everything the modern footballer should be. Carroll, Henderson look like top young players to me, which is what they are rated. Parker is top class for me too. Gerrard? Pull the other one. Rooney? Seek help quite honestly. Gervinho? Now that is just stupid. He's only been here 5mins! We had the same stupid things being said about Solano when he joined and was cack for a year and a half. Turned out alright......

The three I would pick out but have already been pinpointed are: Barry, Mikel and Carrick. Playing for the top three teams in the land and they are vastly overrated for me. Gareth Barry has played very well this season I have to admit, but he is a chugger for me. Carrick is a bit like Jenas, jack of all trades, master of none. Regularly gives the ball away in criminal postions. Mikel I can just cannot see what all the fuss about.

Was it 17m they eventually had to pay. Man U must be laughing their socks off. Well they would be if they hadn't paid 15m for Carrick!

Vidic, struggles too much against pace. I'm not saying every defender has to be quick, but Pique or even JT know to stand off pacy players so they don't get turned and have to haul them down. Vidic chopped an Aldershot player after he got done for pace last night. I think he is class, just not world class like Kompany or Pique.

Lampard, I agree with you, his goalscoring record is fantastic from midfield. Nobody can play as well in a system they aren't suited to.

Rio has been ****e for about a year. I obviously know a lot of Man United fans because I live in Kent, and the majority want Rio 4th choice CB for them. He has lost it.

Bale is too inconsistent. He went from unlucky charm to World Class in 10 months, and only had about 8 class games in that time. On his day he is top class but needs to become more consistent.

Carroll and Henderson have potential. Not quite £55m worth between them though.

    Parker is class.

Gerrard is injury prone and tries to be the hero too much. Cares more about himself than the team.

Rooney is overated beyond belief. If played as a goalscorer he is good. But his positional discipline is horrendous, he is another who loves being the hero too much. Shown by him regularly shooting and missing the target from 50 yards.

Gervinho, people need to give him time.
