Its a fluid inclusion that was trapped as the crystal formed. It contains liquid and gas from the original fluid from which the crystal formed. You can analyse it and get info on the chemistry of the fluids, temperature of formation. It could even be oil - apparently there are oil inclusions in some of the Rookhope granites and fluorites, presumably generated from Carboniferous shales. https://aura.abdn.ac.uk/bitstream/h...d=10341FC3541C467AAB9D974D5C6DBA80?sequence=2 If you want me to check that for you it will cost you about £4k with the Newcastle supporters discount.

Born and bred Rookhope man. It was found in a Rookhope mine. They had a village meeting at the time it was found as they couldn't believe what they were seeing!
If you have a UV lamp, shine it on it and see if it fluoresces. If it does its oil. Love that area of the world. We used to go cycling round there when I was a kid and then had some mineral hunting sessions when I was at Newcastle. Had some superb galena crystals from there but my parents buried them in the garden when I was working overseas.
Enjoy mate, it is really nice around there, even though I can't remember the names of the places Could be a good time to go, I'd imagine the storms may have bought down some more of the cliff face there, that's usually when they get some good finds, but very likely will be busy because of that. Looking out to sea from the fossil shop, go to the right, that is where we were told to go and we did find a couple of goodies
Just here now mate. Got a little cabin/chalet a stones throw from the beach. Gonna unpack and then have a wander down the beach
