Cheong is outraged by that level of police violence (which likely wasn't necessary but doesn't exactly constitute "brutalizing"), but has been generally pretty supportive of police doing far worse in the past:

Were the children not there beforehand? And then it became “police action”. I’d call that slightly dishonest framing.

Now perhaps this criticism was raised ages ago when children were first noted there

The presence of children has been previously reported and, so far as I understand, notice of police action was given by tweets and leaflets. Not a good place for kids.
