My concerns would be for the girl herself as a human being. She's 15 now but must have been caught up in this from a much younger age. It's ridiculous to think she has had any control over her own destiny here, those kids are used and manipulated by others to serve their own purposes.

the western media were very much selling the line her coach was a thundercunt to the child after she fell.

For me its all got too much for her or she's been ordered to fall over and get out of medals. who knows.

Its like when the chinese runners turned up form nowhere in one olympics, won everything in distance running then vanished without trace.

think that was more to do with the very open accusations of doping e.g Sonia O'Sullivan and the embarrassment of FINA banning China from International competition after a huge number of positive tests in a major event . The worry being the same could happen in Athletics which would have been a bigger story .

and as i recall then the yanks got done for massive doping and their 100m sprinter (can't recall her name) was disgraced.

it really is a soup of horrendous behaviour so a 15 year old cut adrift in there can't be good.

the difference was the yanks were doing it as individuals , coaches squads where as in China it was clearly part of an official policy which mirrored the old Eastern bloc methods including barely seeing their athletes between international comps in fact iirc they employed a raft of East German coaches .

    Flo-jo?...........Was she ever disgraced?.....I can't remember. Dead at 38 from a 'seizure'.

Carl Lewis was a doper, his records should be wiped.

    US doping was systemic aswell.

Just reading some comments from Carl Lewis on doping...........'Who cares I failed a drug test' (he failed 3 in 88' alone)
On escaping bans.......'There were hundreds of people getting off, everyone was treated the same' <laugh>

well, in the end its all politics isn't it?

we fall for it too. how is higher in the medal table? who is the big bollocks around the table of global power expressed in sports.

The UK has no an obsession on being on that medal table as it somehow validates us as being relevant on the global stage as a power.

We kind of "accept" japan appearing form nowhere to be third in the table as we all know its fixed but its USA 1, China 2, UK next. we all feel our global power.

in 2016 we were 2nd. in 2012 we were 3rd. This validates the **** out of the UK, apparently to the points where johnson thinks he can talk to the russians about ukraine :)

Ah well at least they are not building ALL that many nukes to one up each other instead

Reading about the Russian figure skaters and this 'school' they're all coming from (run by the blonde Russian woman). Most of the past champions have reitred young, 18 or 19. Most seem to have nothing to do with the sport anymore and one has come out and said she hates the sport.

Even if they're not dopped upto the eyeballs, sounds like the training is back to the old Soviet days of absolute hell demanding nothing but perfection.

oh yes USADA used to accept any old excuse . The best moment was when not long before the Pan American games were due to take place it was announced that for the first time they would be doing drug testing . Over a third of the USA team promptly pulled out <laugh> .

If the Governing bodies actually had any balls and morals the ROC wouldn’t even be at the Olympics so the Valieva situation wouldn’t have occurred. She would still have failed the drug test but she wouldn't be at the Olympics when it was announced.
