I already love Alex Neil A manager who has been here 5 mins and so far only succeeded in drawing with AFC Wimbledon ffs. But today pretty much put a lot of this to bed. “Only shareholder I’ve seen, spoken to or met, is Kyril. I work for him, Kristjaan and Steve Davison” No nonsense. He’s what we need. He is so us.
Exactly as it should be but reassuring he has came out and said so , his priorities lie with producing a team to win football matches not politics .
Glasgow is a heightened version of the north east. If you're from Glasgow you get a decent idea of what we expect.
He’s got the credentials. I agree the only proof is ever in the results. Everything else is irrelevant. But for me, as a southerner, who has never lived north of Birmingham and knows hardly anybody in the north east any more - for me he represents what I think about when I think about the north east. Direct and tells it how it is but without being rude. High standards but not impractical. Simple language rather than trying to sound clever. Seems proactive, not reactive. Lee Johnson was too smug. Too “intelligent”. You never quite knew if what he was saying was true. Phil Parkinson was too passive. Jack Ross was close. But possibly also trying too hard to sound too clever. And also too reserved. Too considered. Did you ever really feel like he was 100% telling it how it was? Clearly a good guy though. I have no idea if its a geography thing. But for me Sunderland as a club shouldn’t be run by Southerners. It’s a proud, northern club. With proud, northern values. That absolutely doesn’t mean others can’t buy into that (look at Kevin Ball for example). But if you’re looking for a good fit - the north and Scotland just “feels” right to me. Might sound discriminatory and stereotyping. And it is. But I am saying that as a cockney myself. Alex Neil just “feels” right to me in my possibly narrow minded view of what a Sunderland manager should be like. And what I want them to be like.
I loved Keane and wanted him back, but we only started doing anything last time when we got Johnny Evans at Christmas.
I tried to say something like this the other day but wasn't as short and precise as I was talking about several things at once. I call it doing a Johnson as opposed to you doing a Neil.
Really got to admire thus guy's blind tenacity. An utter fantasist. Quite marvellous really, you don't seem to get that many now.
What a clown that bloke is! As I said last time if there are investors willing to spend 100s of million on SAFC the last thing they would want is this clown leading it and posting on twitter every few minutes! Pure fantasy world!
I do understand that Wiki, while being helpful most of the time, should not be considered to be 'Gospel'. All the same his is an interesting entry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_John_Storey
I'd have loved Keane coming back like, but I do think Neil is a better coach and has done more consistently as a manager. But still ... I'd love Keane back
