most likely not and they are made usually to be seen to be doing "something" but there's always a hidden hand who's bribed for that call. IMO the richest teams gain massively here as over 180mins and 5 subs per game it really reduces the chances a "lesser" team will progress by virtue of nicking a goal at the inopportune time.
Bloody nuisance, Donga. I think, "oh goody - new posts in the PL thread" and come here looking for a nice laugh at how Man U or Spurs are doing and instead get this. Whilst I'm partial to a good left-wing rant, I want to be prepared for being in a bad mood.
Liverpool is a pain in the a***Pep Guardiola. Pep Guardiola has labelled Liverpool as a “pain in the a**” for his Manchester City team. The Reds are still fighting for the Premier League title, with a nine-point gap separating them in second place from leaders Man City, who have played one game more. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...ews/pep-guardiola-liverpool-man-city-23111505
I'm glad the away goal rule is scrapped personally. All to often in years past the home team would just park the bus to avoid away goals. Now it's the away team... Big deal, same end result- only one team trying to win, only without the arbitrariness of away goals. If we want to make things arbitrary, why not say the home keeper isn't allowed to use his left hand and can only save with his right.. it'll encourage the away team to attack, right?
I cant remember a single time the home team 'parked the bus' because of the away goal. They may have done because it was a massive mismatch, but removing the away goal doesn't stop that. If its an evenly matched tie, you end up with last night's **** show. At one point Madrid broke, the lad held the ball up for support to arrive and they still wouldn't cross the halfway line. The incentive to take a risk has been removed.
there was a proven formula for winning in europe. you had to give yourself a 2 goal cushion in your head. Away first leg? get a goal if you can, try to avoid losing. 0-0 was absolutely fine, 1-1 gave you a great position. Home first leg? need to win the game but avoid the away goal 2-0 was enough to be confident. 0-0 wasn't great. 1-1 was poor conversely then second leg games its really about taking what you had and working with it. remember us v porto? 5-0 away form home first leg. drab 0-0 at home. or people telling us that 0-0 at home to bayern was poor and we would be done over like a kipper away. we win 3-1. In that tie we scored first and then matip scored and OG but we were still "winning" so bayern had to control the game and not concede and away goal but still HAD TO SCORE. We got the next goal and from their Bayern needed two so we hit them on the counter. In a no away goals scenario the whole approach changes fundamentally. At 1-1bayern could play keep ball if they felt like it and just say pens will do us here. ESP with 20 to go. even the barca madness... the outlook changes. 0-3 down following a awful result away. We know we have to go at them and do, but if they got one goal the task would have been all but impossible. 4-0 was a miracle but that away goal gives hope.
