Steve Kean faces a difficult decision tonight whether to go for a win by fielding his strongest available team, or whether to concentrate on the relegation struggle and not risk too many first team players. Any injuries or suspensions picked up tonight could plunge his club further into crisis and despite his public backing from the board, two or three more league defeats in the next few weeks could signal his departure from Eward Park.

Many of the fans have already made it clear that they're patience with him has run out and a cup exit tonight will make their calls for him to go, even louder.

So do you think that he will go for a win or damage limitation and protect his major players for the league battle ahead?.

  2. I don't think he'll field a strong team. He's bottom of the league, he needs to keep all his strong players. He'll go for it tonight, but he'll only use a certain amount of his strongest players.

I think he is on record as saying he doesn't have enough strength in depth which suggests he may field a team similar to his Premier League team. Judging by there league position and dire performances that doesn't seem very strong anyway!!!

I think he'll play as strong as they can tonight.

Focus has to be on the league but the League Cup final is in late Feb so that stil leaves time to focus on avoinding relegation. There are only another 2 matches in the Carling Cup before the end of the year (including this match tonight) before the semis on the 9th Jan 2012.

They've got this far so it's worth a shot at getting to Wembley; same as us.

Kean will be keen to win tonight no matter what the league position is. A loss is a loss no matter what competition it's in and will only put a bigger gap between him and the supporters.

If they do I really hope we sniff it out and follow suit, I'm used to going out of the cup but going out in rubbish ways (weak team against Arsenal at home sums it up) is so frustrating. I want a cup run!

    I'm guessing he'll play his first-team squad.
He's under too much pressure not to do something.

We, on the other hand, will play the strongest side we can afford to, resting a couple of players (Ba) for Stoke.

  8. Pardew is an intelligent man, it makes me wonder if he will think about this and play a full strength team.

Yep, I think he'll go full strength. Kean is desperate for some sort of a win and, being a moron, will put out his strongest team and risk them being worn out at the weekend.

Blackburn need a win to boost confidence if nothing else. I think he'll put out as strong a team as possible.

I imagine Kean will play a strong team, but set up very defensively and try to get a draw/lucky win.

This, some are saying if he loses tonight then he'll be gone by the weekend.

I personally think he has to throw a strong team at it due to the fact that every loss whether league or cup is going to be oushing him closer to the trapdoor. hes went on record saying they have a lot of injury problems juist now so i can see him playing more or less his strongest tea. i think we would be foolish to make more than 3/4 changes keeping a strong spine to the team of colo, cabaye, jonas, plus one of our senior strikers. best as he needs a goal.

i think pards will see this as a game we can win in and he seems to take the prospect of winning a cup very seriously and he knows its our best chance of winning one.

    I feel sorry for Kean.

His line up will be decimated by my white chocolate and chilli brownies I'm baking tonight. A double batch as well!

    Victory is assured.
