Looking at it another way, do you think any other club in league one getting a owner with over 2 billion would try and get out of this division the way we are trying to?
With pursuing Defoe, it seemed to me like a move to boost the crowds and revenue. It’s commendable to want to get promoted while being as sustainable as possible. Our massive infrastructure is arguably a burden to us now, in that regard, rather than an asset. A weight on us. Thinking about what you’re saying @rooch 3 , I wasn’t keen on us going mad with cash to get promoted. Seemed like a bad idea. I’m starting to change my mind, that we need to use some financial muscle to overcome some of the hindrances we have.
I haven’t a clue what the other teams have done, I was just wondering if another league one club got took over with a owner with 2 billion pounds they wouldn’t buy much better players than these we have now.
Just what was said by the bloke that broke the story first about Keane walking away. I'm taking everything with a pinch of salt. Two Geordie journos that both said we shouldn't be in that league (tables don't lie like) and bigging us up about the crowds we get. Didn't sound like digs. Anyway, who cares.
I'm not really bothered about who owns what, imo ownerships are judged on transfer windows. I'd like to think we had a good one, time will tell. I've said more than once that "I've/we've heard it all before. The journo on talkSPORT tonight was the same one that broke that Keane was walking away. He was also quite complimentary toward us and said he would have loved Keane back at Sunderland even though Neil is the better manager. He gave a time line and tweeted it out as he went and was proven correct. At one point he said Keane and the club were miles apart on contracts and direction of the club. At no point was anything agreed between Keane and Sunderland. When it started looking ropey, the club began 2nd interviews. This is what was discussed on talkSPORT tonight.
I'd love to see a table of transfer/loan fees spent in League One. I'll bet it's not as high as people think.
You can look at it, mate. Just go from team to team and see who has spent what. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ipswich-town/transfers/verein/677
There are people on there who just ****e stir constantly whatever the agenda. A valid criticism becomes an irrational hate campaign because of the agent provocateur and those of poor thinking skills are sucked into it
Seen that site before. It's all estimated figures and the whole "Total Transfer Value" figure is misleading as it's completely subjective What doesn't help is how many clubs announce "undisclosed fees" these days. In fact I can't remember the last time we announced an actual fee (which may lead to some assuming we haven't spent money)
Good point about the infrastructure, not sure what half of them do tbh. From what I have seen, some of them could do with re-training (to use a current euphemism).
I don’t want us to go mad with cash, just instead of buying 17 year olds, crocks and player’s that are failures at other clubs, buy some players that other clubs would prefer not to sell the same as bigger clubs would do to us.
Had to switch the WMS podcast off today with them talking about the ownership structure and completely speculating on the percentages. It's pathetic really as they clearly don't understand how ownership of a Private Limited Company works The general narrative was "What if KLD wants to invest some money but the others say no, then he things "well I've only got 40% share why should I do all the investing?" then James Hunter going on to say about how the other owners "may be making noises in the boardroom" about signings/investment/managerial appointments. Not to mention the "it's clear there was a split a boardroom level about the next manager" Honesty, do these people not know what "a controlling share" means? Do they also not understand that being part owner, who is NOT on the board of directors does not get a say in the day to day running? It's exhausting
It is exhausting mate, and you're spot on. Also, the difference between a minority shareholding in a private company as opposed to the same in a public company, has escaped many.
